Hey all!! I tried to supplement the little one yesterday but mom wasn't having it. She picked the baby up and took it back to her nest. So our plan is to take the 2 lowest weight babies out at least twice a day when we work and give them extra time with mama so they won't have to fight their siblings for a teat. The fact that she's staying with them now has helped tremendously. I don't know their birth weight bc I didn't have a scale then but mama and her sister are both small babies. Sadie weighs like 5lbs and her sister weighs 4lbs. The vet said they are just petite kitties and that's fine bc both are healthy. I suppose maybe the babies will be smaller cats too?? I'm not sure. I really don't know how I can supplement them when mama says no! Any suggestions??

Putting the smaller kittens to mom for extra nursing time w/o the bigger kitties is a good strategy.  It may be enough to help them gain but you won't really know until you can weigh them every day.

You'd have to take the kitten to another room away from mama to supplement.

Extra time with mama is good, but the scale will tell you if they are gaining well or not.

That mom and her sister are small has little bearing on the kittens' weight gain. All four of my now grown kittens are much bigger than their petite mom.

I'm weighing them once a day when I work and twice when I'm off.

Good morning everyone :) I'm posting our gains for the past 24h

14g black
11g Orange
14g khaki
14g nom nom
13g Milo

Weigh in went great! Nom nom is our piggy of the clowder!! He reminds me so much of his daddy bc his daddy is such a piggy. And they are both vocal!

The gains are good!
Is this with your help?
Not at all!! 100% mama. She will allow me to weigh babies ONLY. As soon as I weigh them she's looking at me & meowing saying "ok mama, put my babies back" lol I've been weighing them twice a day. (It stresses me out) only bc I'm like OMG they aren't gaining enough. However I think I found my "runt" khaki. He/she gains just not as much as the others do.

Ok so I've been weighing the babies 8:30p central time every night. At midnight they will be 5 days old. I've been worried about "khaki" bc it seemed to gain slowly but it's finally 111g!! But now the "orange" has only gained 9g the past 24h. It weighs 110g now. Should I be concerned?

Tabby weighs 129g
Nom nom weighs 135g
Milo weighs 125g

I have noticed that nom nom is my bully fatty of the crew!

Nine grams is in the acceptable range of 6-10 grams per day, and the overall weights are good for just 5 days old.

So far so good! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

8:30p 6/25.
80g tabby kitten
76g orange
75g khaki
86g nom nom
73g milo

This was their 1st weights. I haven't supplemented any. The babies have been fed strictly by mama. She went from sucky mom to super mom! Lol she's very protective of them but she stays with them with the exception of her potty breaks she takes.

The orange and khaki are still quite small. I think they would be much bigger if you were supplementing, and you need to continue to watch them closely. Remember that 6-10 grams is the minimum per day!

Alright. The khaki colored kitten was super light when it was born. Now it's ears are smoke colored. It's fur is tan but the roots are dark. Any guesses what it'll look like grown??
Oh and the big white one is solid white. Pink skin.....maybe albino??

The 2 white babies are going to color pointed. Which means they will get color to the cooler parts of their body first, ears, tail, and feet. My girl had 4 solid white babies at birth and now they are blue tortie Lynx points. These are the 2 I still have. As you can see their ears and tails are much darker than their bodies.

The "khaki" one is probably a point meaning he will have a pattern like a siamese and he will keep his blue eyes. All pointed cats are born white and later develop the dark spots on the cold spots on their bodies (the point pattern is temperature-dependent, meaning that warmer areas on their bodies will stay a light "khaki" color, while the cold spots on their bodies, the face, ears, paws, and tail will turn darker). Point gene is also a modified form of albinism in cats, which is why their eyes will stay blue and if you see the "glow" of their eyes at night, the glow will be red instead of the green/yellow color of a non-pointed cat's eyes.

See how their eyes glow red?:

I doubt that your other kitten is an albino. Full albinism in cats is extremely rare. He/she is either an all white cat or he/she is also a point (siamese patterned) cat like her brother/sister.

How are the two smaller kittens? How much have they gained in the last day? Have you supplemented yet?
133g orange
127g khaki

Last nights weights. They are still just feeding off of mom. The gains seem to be good.
