It takes new moms 24-48 hours to settle down sometimes.

How much have the kittens gained?

Have you ever fed tiny kittens before? They rarely take a bottle when they have a mom, and so a syringe is necessary.

1st weigh in was 16 hours ago. Mama stepped in around 8hours ago.

So far: these are weight gain reflective of 16hours with mama really doing her job for 8h.

3G gain black
6g gain orange
1g gain Khaki
8g gain nom nom
5g gain Milo

It's been a long time since I fed a tiny baby. I'll try and get black and khaki syringe q2h today.

I think they need it. Tummy down, head up. Drop by drop in the side of the mouth. Carefully so none is inhaled into the lungs. You'll do fine!

So far so good FINALLY!! She seems to be taking care of the babies now. Well, until now she hasn't cared what animals were in here. We've tried to keep all pets away but they trickle in thanks to our kids. But now she seems to do better with her babies with minimal stimuli. I've kicked the males outside. One of them was daddy. The other one we think is gay lol he's not interested in anything but grooming himself and cuddling. The daddy is an overweight, lazy cat. Bless it, he likes to eat around the clock and sleep.
So glad to hear mama is settling in with the babies!  As others have said, it's not uncommon for it to take a day or two for hormones to kick in.  I do think you need to start supplementing the the ones who aren't gaining enough asap.

For the males, would you like help finding a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in your area?  They are quite likely to get injured defending their territory against other toms, even if they seem like lazy guys.  In addition, they will keep going after your females and other females in the area.  That's a lot of kittens!  We're happy to help!

Bandit (daddy)
Oliver (only one testicle)

We live in Iuka Mississippi!! Aka nowhere USA lol
He may have a second testicle that hasn't dropped.  They can look for it during his neuter.

This place looks great and hopefully nearby!  $25 for males and $40 for females.  https://www.facebook.com/NMSpayNeuterClinic?fref=ts

You can search here for other nearby counties.  My Mississippi geopgraphy isn't great!  http://www.msspan.org/locate_services

Thank you!!
As for Oliver, we didn't know until he was 4 months old that "she" was actually a "he"! Lol and he went through a pretty traumatic deal when he was about 3 months old. He had a box to fall on him and he was pretty pitiful for a few days afterwards. My husband thinks that his box incident caused one of the testicles to be pushed back up. Who knows?!?

One of those kittens is orange.  I see some orange on mama but is there an orange tom around?
We have 2 orange
1 white
1 khaki
And 1 gray black striped
Kittens

The male she matted with is black and white.
Sadie is an inside cat, bandit was the only tom she mated with.

Awe I [emoji]10084[/emoji]️ This site!! I've learned so much from you guys!! I've been a cat lover all my life. I haven't dealt with kittens since I was about 10 years old. My kitty fireball had babies in the bottom of my closet on a new winter jacket that my mom had bought me lol so needless to say I've had a ton of orange cats in my life bc fireball was orange. I picked Sadie out of a litter bc she was so odd in color. I've always been curious as to what kind of babies she'd have. Now I know! These are her 1st litter and will be her last.

How soon can she be spayed??

Thank you for the help :) Sadie Louise will get spayed as soon as the babes are 8 weeks old! I've always been taught if possible let a female have at least 1 litter b4 a spay. She's had her one and we are pleased with the babies :)

Good morning everyone :) we have had a GREAT 24 hours with Sadie and her fab five babies!! Sadie is doing great! She loves the babies, nurses them and her instincts have kicked in the protect them. She allows me and my hubby to weigh them but we put them back in her crate asap bc Sadie gets antsy when they start crying. All the kittens have gained at this point. I was very pleased with our weigh in this morning especially it being the babes were weighed with a true reflection of Sadie being with them consistently for 24 hours now. The least gain was 5g and the most was 8g. Funny bc the 8g gainer cries for teat and is more or less a hog like his daddy lol matter of fact I was situating Sadies wet food last night and (8g gain) ---> nom nom was nursing while brothers and sisters slept lol truly remarkable bc his daddy literally eats out of the 24h buffet at our house around 10 times in a 24h period and he's a fattie ha

Also, we have 2 Tom cats that are 10 months old. Both will be spayed. Hopefully within the next few weeks. AND if we keep the babies or keep any of them they will be fixed as well.

I just wanted to get a Sadie and fab five update. Lord knows the 1st 24h stressed me out bc Sadie didn't seem to want to be a mama but lucky for us she came around. Maybe the poor baby was tired and probably sore after birth. From what I've read she had a decent litter size of 5 with her 1st pregnancy and she's doing very well :)

I'll update again later this afternoon. I work 12hr shifts (I'm a nurse) so it'll be around 8p central standard time b4 I get back home.

Oh and Sadie loves her crate, she just doesn't like the door closed SO the crate is in my closet in our bedroom and the door to the room stays closed.

As with humans every pregnancy is different. There is no "text book" way of doing any this!!

wait, so its between 5 and 8 grammes in 24 hours?  Be aware this is absolute minimum, unless they are very minuscule, or recently in heavy crisis.  So the Yellow Alert flag is still on, even if everything seems better and better.

We wanna these numbers doubled during a normal 24 hours period.

I believe this is an old wives tale! You haven't done anything wrong by your girl, but I know you have other cats as well. Just so you know, they will be just as happy, and just as good pets, whether they have a litter or not.

Agreed. 5g in a 24 hour period is not quite enough and if that's a trend you may want to give that little one some extra formula.
