Our 8 year old Ragdoll, Milo, has peed on rugs and beds when we have company before. But in the last year it has gotten really bad. He pees on rugs, shoes, the couch, etc. this morning he was going to pee on the bathroom rug right in front of me. I scooped him up and took him to his box. I watched him there for two minutes but had to get ready for work. He then went to the kitchen where he has a favorite scratching bed, and peed on it. My wife woke up a couple hours later and texted me he pooped on the couch. The boxes are both cleaned daily. Completely emptied biweekly. We have feliway spray and diffuser. Milo has been to the vet. They gave him an antidepressant to try to break the cycle. And said otherwise he is healthy and it is behavioral. I don't know what else to do. He is spoiled with attention. He has science diet urinary food, just in case. No changes in food, litter or household changes. No company since Christmas. What else can we do? Help he is our boy.

Has your vet done both a urinalysis and a urine culture?

Are there any stray/feral cats in your neighborhood?

Is Milo declawed?

Is he neutered?

Also, how are you cleaning the accident spits? Are you using an enzymatic cleaner? I like Nature's Miracle, but there are other brands available.

By the way, yes, he has been neutered since a kitten and has been raised from birth with his sister. He has the occasional hair ball but never any other health problems. He is indoor with a door to a custom outdoor screened sunbathing area.

Yes we have used natures miracle but have been using a new one in a silver can with a yellow cap that is aerosol for maybe a month now. I think it's called urineblaster. Milo is not declawed. I couldn't do it. He has no scratching issues. He has always been good with scratching posts and the cardboard scratchers. We spray them with catnip spray once a week.

The vet did bloodwork, urinalysis and a urine culture. Milo's poop is solid and healthy looking. He gets his yearly shots, deworming and heart worm. Both boxes are extra large and have no top. He is a big cat. They have not been moved and he used to use them just fine with an occasional peeing issue with company. Now he started pooping out of the box as well.

It definitely sounds like you've covered the basic, which is excellent!

Have you tried using Cat Attract litter? It would certainly be worth getting another litter box and putting it in the primary room he is having the accident. Try using the Cat Attract litter in this box.

Wondering if Milo might have an orthopedic issue such as arthritis or hip dysplasia going on? I have Maine Coon mixes and all but one has had early on set orthopedic problems. Max (my 5 yr old) has a mild form of hip dysplasia accompanied by arthritis in his sacrum. He was born with the HD, the arthritis showed up when he was about 2. My RB Kitty Lucky started to develop arthritis at around 8.

MC's are more prone to orthopedic problems, wondering if Ragdolls are prone as well?

are there other cats who visit in the yard? sounds like a territory issue. Try adding another cat box and try a different litter. what kind of litter are you using?

I had a kitty poop on th ecarpet because she hated clumping litter. she didn't like small bits sticking to her tail. she was long haired too.

we got plain nonclumping no perfume basic clay litter and problem stopped.

you can try cat attract.

if you are using those crystal type litters some cats don't like the texture of this on their pads. kind of like us walking on rock stone walkway=it jabs into the feet.

I would also try moving the boxes to the rooms where he pee n poops. sometimes they want more boxes. how often do you scoop out the yuckies? maybe he wants his own box.

We have two extra large boxes with the lightweight clumping litter. We scoop it 1-3x per day. And change out the box every two weeks. We have cat attract. We have a very small house that won't accommodate three boxes. They have had this type of litter most of their lives. Also, Milo never sprays. He squats and empties his whole bladder. I don't think it is spraying. They are inside cats. The yard is fenced in with a 6ft wood privacy fence. The next door neighbors don't have cats.

ok well is there a way to add a third litter box in the hallway or corner of another room-just to see if it helps? I would try the nonclumping litter in one box= its worth a shot. walmart sells a huge bag of non clumping clay unscented litter for about $4. if nothing else you can use it for the winter time for traction on ice/snow.

1bdrm, 2bath in key west. The hallway is enough for a person to walk through. No room for a third box. There isn't even storage for us. The bathrooms are too small to allow for a cat box. We do not have a porch or a basement. He has never even been interested in the second box we put in. He has free rein of the house and we built him a huge outdoor enclosure he has access to 24/7. I will take thin back to the vet this week to check his hips and do another round of urine and blood tests. It has been 5-6 months since we tried that.

hmm maybe there is pain for using the catbox=like arthritis-you can try a box with a lower lip-see if that helps.

I understand about the space. In my house most of them share boxes except when one poops. then they wont touch it until I scoop is only why I suggested another box. We scoop all the time too. pretty much if I walk by. I wish I had another idea. but arthritis could affect using the box. but he is young to get it.
