At Tractor Supply, they have the "Paws and Claws" store brand canned food. Their turkey and giblets flavor is grain free.

It comes in a 22 ounce can for $1.19. For somebody who has tons of cats to feed, that certainly helps the budget! Friskies has gone up in price and really isn't the best deal for me anymore. Even the 4Health 13 oz cans are a better deal than Friskies at 99 cents a can. Friskies is up to at least $1.09.

I got a bunch of this type for my fosters. I really like the idea of having it in a 22 oz can. My 6 foster cats can eat a 13 oz can in just one meal.

Wow that is a bargain!  Are there other grain-free meats besides turkey?

The chicken and tuna flavor wasn't grain free. It had rice in it, I believe. I didn't check the one that was primarily seafood, as I steer away from flavors that are purely fish.

In the northeast and mid-Atlantic U.S.A., the Companion Brand 'Wholesome Formula' wet cat food contains no corn, wheat or soy product, is available at Stop & Shop Supermarkets and Giant Supermarkets, and is a bargain at about 90 cents or less for a 5.5oz can.  They market other recipes similar to the Wholesome Formula, but have rice as an ingredient.  I've bought the Chicken formula for 75 cents for a 13oz can.

I LOVE 4Health at Tractor Supply!  No by-products and no grains.  It's .79 cents and is equivalent to much more expensive foods.

I love 4Health as well, and like it for my resident cats, but it's too pricey to feed my foster cats because of the sheer number of foster cats that I have. The "Paws and Claws" brand does have by products, but no grains. It's only $1.19 per 22 oz can, plus Tractor Supply gives my rescue a 10% discount.

Some people believe it is.

Personally, I don't have the option to avoid it because of the number of foster cats that I have to feed. The rescue wouldn't pay $120-150 per month to feed 6 cats.

It seems that the jury is still out regarding whether or not un-degraded carrageenan is unhealthy for cats.  I try not to be swayed by conspiracy theorists or bean counters, but I'd like to believe that major food companies wouldn't purposely include harmful ingredients in their products.  We all understand that it's only a very few pet food producers who do not add carrageenan to their products, so we are stuck more or less, to believe that the stuff is safe, until unfortunately proven otherwise.

I wanted to mention earlier two U.S. wet food brands that are grain free and priced reasonably:

1. Evolve

2. Under the Sun

I do know that for my cats (personal and rescue) that have issues with IBD, pancreatitis, and such carrageenan has to be avoided. I do see a link between this and their flare-ups.

On a whole, I don't see the same problem with guar gum.

Interesting is it just odserved food intolerance which I argee does happen or is there other research; don't shun me[emoji]128521[/emoji]But my adult cats normaly eat dry food , but Beatrix who is very thin has a litter of kits and they are eating wet
So I have been reading those labels. I do have a male 3 with IBS and he is grain free and oh no don't you dare let him lick out your cereal bowl . And with some other cats long ago I notice hair ball controll and wieght controll dry can do nasty stuff to some of them. I in canada and wellness core grain free wet made beatrix throw up but differant kitten wets have been fine

Jeez, I really wish there was a grain free wet option up here in Canada for such a huge can, so a large amount, for so cheap a price! Maybe I'm just way too used to Vancouver prices for everything.. :(

Anyone know of a Canadian Version of this Tractor Supply store where there is such cheap food? lol

I grew up in the lower mainland BC but am in Nova Scotia now there are stores called feeds & needs and some other farm supply stores, I can imagine Langley would have 30 years ago but can't think of where would now, but have not looked at the pet supplies ; people is food in cheaper in Van than on east coast. Cat food is more likely the same price. The wellness I found was 4$ ish for the the large standard can ! I'll look at the farm store next time I am there.

If you're in the Vancouver area, then you may not be far from a Costco in Western Washington.  As I recall there is (was?) a Costco a few miles south of the border that used to get innudated with Canadian shoppers, who marveled at the bargains to be had and the money to be saved.  You might find grain free varieties of Friskies, Fancy Feast and Sheba at Costco.

Yes, I understand that things have changed up at the border.  I haven't been to Canada in years but when I was younger we would drive back and forth over the border with no problems.  I don't believe we were ever even asked for an I.D. in the 1990s.  11 September changed all that.  I joke to my greenhorn friends here in the U.S. that at many locations the BC/Washington border crosses folks' backyards.  No fences, no gates, no towers etc.  LOL.
