I just started TNR Ing ferals, and have adopted two kittens. Before I knew it, my house was full of fleas. They are warming up to me, but will not let me hold them to put on a flea collar. Help!!

They need a flea treatment as soon as possible.  The vet can do this for you - my vet uses Revolution, which helps with fleas, ticks and earmites.

Flea collars aren't the best idea for a couple of reasons - they can get caught on something and they can be very irritating to the cat's neck.  I had a cat who lost all the hair around his neck when I used a flea collar.

You may need to confine them to one room until you clean the rest of the house and get rid of the fleas already there.

Thank you for adopting them!

That isn't an option..
They were TNR'd and then I rescued...I am not able to corral them or even pat them...no way could I take them to the vet. I'm looking for something I can do at home that's not so expensive and more natural. Thanks for your reply...

Oh, boy.  There are flea products you can put into their food.  Some use Diotomaceous Earth  (DE) - it is a flour-like substance that you can sprinkle onto the wet food.  ONLY use food grade though.  DE that is used in pool filters contains harmful chemicals.

You can also get a product called CapStar - which I believe uses DE.  It too can be sprinkled on their food.  I've ordered both DE and CapStar on Amazon.

Plain old vacuuming will help get rid of the fleas in your house, BTW.  Even vacuum bare floors - the cyclonic action of the vacuum kills them.

DE also works if you sprinkle it on the carpets and let it sit awhile.  Be careful, though - it is very fine and you don't want to inhale it.

Thank you....does it tell you exactly how much to add to their food? Could you tell me the name of exactly what to order? That sounds like my best option..I've heard too many horror stories about the collars and neck drops..(neurotoxicity and allergic reactions)

Look up Diotomaceous Earth Food Grade on Amazon.  it is usually packaged for farms.  I got a lot because I also spread it around an enclosure I had for two cats to keep the fleas and ticks out.  Amazon has a one-pound jar, although that is going to last you awhile.

The Capstar should be available at PetSmart or other pet stores.  If not, they should have something similar.

The Capstar comes in capsules, so for the kittens, I used a pinch on their wet food, two times.  Check the instructions for weight.  Mom and Dad might need a little more.
