I find they are with you much longer if they are fed wet foods on a regular basis. They don't get blockages, diabetes, and all those kitty problems that take them sooner. I had two sibling cats live to be 20 on wet food only. My parents cats died at 7 and 13 from blockages and diabetes, they both ate dry.

I strive for quality of life for my cats... How long is genetics and everything else. As long they are happy. It is their life. I am to help them. Even with dry/kibbles my Meuzette lived her life with me through fifteen cats and two dogs. I only had eight at any one time(for quality again) and I found her as an adult in a parking lot. She ate what she wanted. Kibbles, wet, cooked meat. She in her younger days hunted. But later the world cracked down on us and she had to stay in. Over 20 years...

Hunting ahhh the real life for a cat but alas it is much too difficult these days, I know what you mean, my current cat was feral and lived outside for 2 years and went in and out for 4 more, now she has been in for 2 years, every now and then she goes awol when no one is looking she sneaks out between your legs because she craves the outdoors. She comes back in 30 minutes but I worry the whole time. There is too much danger not to mention fleas and worms.

I saw him losing his appetite against chicken a little bit. I was also concerned about the nutrition facts of this routine. Now I adapted a new diet for him; I bought ProPlan both dry and canned food which I give him in turns, I boil chicken legs with some zucchini and a little bit of rice in it and give him a serving daily, and then I boil an egg and give the yolk also daily.
I hope this somewhat helps for him to grow well.
I also consider going raw but I have to wait till I have a grinder. I am saving for this. Thanks for your replies!

My Female cat Sticker used to only eat mixed dry and canned wet food about 30% dry 70% canned... Now for 2 months she has only eaten dry food. Unfortunately I already knew about how dry food can be bad, but she must be the pickiest cat in the world... Even her favorite pouches she wont eat anymore. Since then she has gained weight, I am hoping she will eventually start eating canned food again. Our new Cat "Suamog" will pretty much eat anything... So I just give him mixed.

Hi Gulbeseker,

I'm from Turkey as well. If you want to feed him dry (though I wouldn't recommend, maybe just a bit), I suggest you use N&D Grain Free. Having tried almost all the brands in Turkey, I think it's the best here. The other so called bests such as Hill's, Royal Canin or Pro Plan contain too much grains, it's much more than the meat content. But if I were you I would stick with the homemade diet, it is much more better for your cat. I would give anything for my cat to eat homemade food, unfortunately he's used to commercial foods because I didn't know better first time I had him, so he would't eat anything I made him more than once or twice. What you can prepare for him at home is million times more nutritious for your cat than these commercial pet foods. You can add necessary supplements like vitamins or essential fatty acids. You can find lots of recipes with a quick search on Google. If he gets bored with chicken, then you give him red meat for a couple of days, then switch to fish (not too much fish it's not always the best thing for cats and it should be fresh, not canned) just to provide him some variety. As for the dairy products, yes they are not good for cats because they are all naturally lactose intolerant, but if he loves milk a lot, you can sometimes give him goat's milk as a treat because it's lower in lactose than cow's milk. Don't give cheese, they're mostly salty and salt is very very bad for your cat.

Again, dry food is not recommended because since cats are originally evolved in desert climates, they are biologically prone to have their water intake from their food, they're not heavy water drinkers. So when you feed them dry, you are lowering their water intake significantly. That's why most of the cats develop kidney disease in their senior years. Mos probably vets in Turkey will tell you you should feed only dry, rarely wet because eating wet causing dental plaque, don't listen to them, they're being ridiculous. It is much more better to have dental plaques than having kidney failure.

Oh hey! It's so nice to meet you here!
I will definitely try the brand you suggested, thanks a bunch!
He seems fine with ProPlan but I am not sure what long term feeding will lead to, so I'm on the search and also on the way of going raw as soon as I get my hands on a grinder. I have so many super recipes that I am dying to try to, so wish me luck to have a grinder sometime soon!

Mine can't live without kibble, so I try to feed more wet to discourage them. But eights are quite happy with it. Life is too short to worry the good or bad. My old Queen likes Meow Mix ...Mittens hates it. Racheal Ray Salmon is his choice. The rest of the boys don't care. Pro Plan seems to make them puke though. So no more of that.
