For anyone that hasn't got this information already via social media -

This isn't the first time the FDA has picked on small raw pet food companies instead of going after the Big Ones. Really a bummer for RC because they have excellent quality food and standard, and all these lots tested negative by a third party. Hopefully raw feeders that use RC won't be dissuaded by this recall.

The owner of the indy store I buy from just called me with this info. They're calling all the customers that have purchased Radcat recently.

I buy 3 weeks worth of the 16 oz containers at a time, which I portion and freeze immediately so I don't actually have any of my product containers. It's kind of a moot point now anyway, because I'm down to 3 days of food left. I was planning on getting more tonight.

No one has thrown up or had any problems, so I'm going to assume it's fine. It's just weird that FDA tested positive, yet neutral 3rd party tested negative. I'll keep an eye on the cats, but I think the chance of them getting Listeria is actually pretty slim.

We've been having this discussion on several of the cat groups on FB. The basic opinion of almost everyone is that this is not an issue, it's the FDA picking on Rad Cat (as they've done in the past with other raw food manufacturers) and that this isn't anything to worry about. As we know cats are exposed to bacteria all the time and likely even if they were exposed to this bacteria after HPP it wouldn't make them sick anyway unless they have a compromised immune system. I portion all the RC into small containers too, so if i got an affected batch I already fed it.

@missmimz  I just checked out the discussion going on on Rad Cat's Facebook. I'm excited to see Tracey's blog post about discussions with the FDA. It does really seem like the FDA is specifically out to get them. I like how transparent RadCat is being about everything.

I still plan on grabbing more RadCat tonight. My cats do so much better on raw than anything else.

I love the Natural Cat Care Blog so was very interested to read this post about how Liz's cats ate some of the recalled Rad Cat food. (link is here!)

I like her blog a lot too, but I'm honestly kind of skeptical about her RC story. Not that she's exaggerating, but I'm not really convinced any of the RC food was really tainted in the first place, or that it would actually cause anyone to get sick. It's more likely her and her husband caught the flu (seriously, that's going around right now). I'm also a bit confused about the part where she said it started to smell. Did she leave it out for 2-3 days? I mean I don't understand that part. Even good food would start to smell off at that point. I never leave raw food thawed in my fridge beyond 2 days.
