My two cats have been raw fed for about 4 months and are doing great. I'd like to find some type of healthy dry food or treats to use as treats for puzzle feeders, hide & seek games, fetch games etc. The texture of many freeze dried treats are a turnoff for one of my cats - and too powdery for puzzle feeders. I've heard good things about Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw. Are the pieces fairly hard like kibble? Is it risky to feed them as treats rather than adding water in a meal?

I was going to suggest Stella & Chewy's! This is perfectly fine to feed dried, especially as a treat. (I use it dried as a topper for wet food.) Some batches are dried/harde than others. If ordering online, best to order it separately so that other items don't crush it (not a problem for me as I crumble it anyway.)

Another option would be Nature's Variety Instinct raw boost pieces (not the kibble + raw boost). Halo had recently put out a freeze-dried kibble which is very hard, much like kibble. It's been well accepted by my 2 pickiest.

Thank you for your reply ... Stella & Chewy's is price but they only get a small amount of treats. The price my deter my hubby who is far too lavish with handing out treats when they beg. :) And I'll feel better knowing they're having fun with a treat that's healthy.

Orijen freeze dried treats would be good too. The dog ones (which are just meat) are bigger size but easy to break up.

I use the Nature Variety Instinct Minis for cats.  Perfect size for puzzle toys and not at all crumbly or messy.  The chicken and duck are both good, but my cats don't like the rabbit version - even though they love fresh rabbit.
