My cat is so close to giving birth! I gave her a room to herself with food, water, litter box, cat trees, a bed, and toys. I knew she was close to birth a few days ago so I've kept her in here. She's been very affectionate and calling for me lately. Today I noticed her breathing fast and she hadn't eaten much like usual. She is now keeping to herself in the closet. What do you guys think? How soon are we expecting?! This is my first cat and her first pregnancy. She was always an inside cat but then she decided one day that she liked it outside better. I've been waiting for her to have these kittens assuming it's any day now but her behavior today tells me it's super close!

Sounds like labor is starting.  Are you able to stay with her in the room?  The 1st stage of labor can be short or last up to 24 hours.

When the kittens arrive you'll need a nest for her and them.  A cardboard box with an old blanket or fleece in it.  Mom will be more relaxed if the kittens are contained.  It needs to be large enough for her to lay down with her legs stretched out to nurse.

Yes right now she's in an open space of the closet with no doors. She's laying on puppy pads. I have a big long cardboard box I can set up with blankies.

She'll need to have her litter box near by as well as a food bowl and water bowl.  But that's for after she gives birth so she won't have to travel far from her babies.  She will need both wet and dry food, even kitten food and KMR.

I guess she needs it now.  She may or may not want to eat right now but it'd be good to give her that option.  Like for now just put down dry food and water.

She's a real sweetie. It does sound close. She will need that nest to deliver the kittens in. Usually, when cats deliver there is little or no blood or fluids expelled, and she will clean the kittens. So don't be afraid to set up the box and blankets - that's so much better than the puppy pads.

Puppy pads are fine to deliver on, then move the new family into the nesting box.

It sounds like she's in labor!

Keep us posted. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

My cat is super pregnant too!!! I'm so nervous about the whole process. I've had an un-neutered kitty before, so this is all new to me. She just showed up at the house at the beginning of May, and her nipples were already enlarged, so I estimated that she got pregnant a couple weeks prior, but I really have no clue. My calendar math estimates that she will definitely deliver by the end of the month, but I really expected it to be this week. She's just a little girl, about 6 months old probably... and she's so full of kittens that I just want this to be over with already so I can stop fretting over whether or not she runs out the door to go nest in the barn. I'm also excited to meet the wee ones. But mainly, I'm just worried about her and I want everything to go smoothly.

The issue is that she keeps faking me out. She's been doing it for like 3 days. Yesterday morning, she got on her blanket, and didn't want to get off for ANYTHING... snacks, going out to sit on the porch, litterbox, or ANYTHING. This is so unlike her. I brought her all her things... food, water, litter pan, etc. She stayed there all day. She wasn't running a fever, and didn't seem uncomfortable. She was alert. She just didn't want to leave her blanket. I thought the kittens were finally going to arrive, but by night-time, she was running around the house like a nut, playing with toys, asking to go out, eating like a horse, and generally acting like her normal self. All day today, she has acted totally normal, and even hunted in the yard for awhile. But tonight, she's been a little odd again. She's still playing and acting like she feels fine, but she's been simultaneously clingy and aloof (only a cat could pull that off). She follows me around the house and plops down wherever I am, but she leaves if I try to pet her, and has been more vocal than normal. I wish these kittens would come... I'm so nervous. Haven't noticed too much licking of her rear (she can't really reach it), but she's bathing more in general. Argh. What to do. She wants to go outside so badly... I just can't risk her running off.

Sorry for the essay. I'm a nervous grandma.

Anyway, congrats to you, OP... it sounds like your kitty is ready to deliver. :) I hope she and her babes are all healthy and that everything goes well. <3

The KMR is just back-up in case they aren't nursing properly, right? I'm hoping that my girl nurses the babes alright... in which case they don't need the KMR, right? I want to get some just in case, but hopefully won't need it.

KMR is for the mama if she wants to drink it, but it would be good to have some on hand just in case.

@Forest Phoenix   if the mom is really only 6 months old, she will need the extra nutrition the KMR provides for herself and her kittens.  Like humans, her babies will take what they need and her body will suffer.

Thanks for the info. I'll go to the store to pick some up tomorrow. I'm also getting her some NutriCal (for mama while nursing, then for the whole family when kittens are old enough to eat it). Do you think she will need KMR in addition to that? Thanks a bunch, and sorry for swamping the thread. I'll start a new thread for Aaru. Good advice :)

Nala is very vocal and doesn't want me to leave but I've been staying in here and she's mellowed out in her spot. Still lots of licking and fast breathing. She tried a few different spots in the room but now she has chosen the closet.

Be prepared to bunk down near the closet.  She needs the moral support of her favorite human.  She is definitely in labor.  Rub her tummy if she'll let you, it helps move things along.
