How long does food stay "fresh"?

I'm just wondering, based on experience and what not, how long does dry food generally stay fresh for if you purchase bags that are resealable? I just got a second cat and was looking into buying bigger bags (11-13 pounds) but then started worrying that it would go stale or bad before I got through it, as I also feed wet food. I'm just not sure how much food 2 cats go through generally. Would it be best to stay with the smaller bags? It would be a shame since bigger bags are such better deals, but if I must then I will. Thanks a bunch! :D

IMO not very long. I buy the smaller bags of kibble so that I can ensure it's fresh. I also put kibble in a vacuum sealed pet food storage container. I only use a very small amount of kibble as a snack.

Since you use it as a snack, how long does your small bag usually last? :)

A month, tops? I have 10 cats, so nothing really lasts that long lol. I wouldn't keep kibble more than maybe 2 months. Make sure to keep it in a cool place and consider investing in a vacuum sealed container for it.

Woah,10! I am lucky to have two considering my boyfriend is allergic. If I had that many I guess I wouldnt even worry about a 13 pound bag going bad. :D

Haha oh my! You must have a big house in order for him to be "surviving", or he has some amazing allergy medicine.

Mine's been constantly sneezing since getting the new kitten.  I think her running around and playing with my other cat has caused more fur and dander to go flying around than usual.

Yeah my house is big, otherwise it would be nuts! Luckily he doesn't get asthma symptoms just a lot of congestion. Allergy meds + lots of vacuuming + really good quality HEPA filters helps a lot.
