Hi Everyone

I found this site by total accident, I'm not even sure now what I was looking for in the first place, but 4 hours later I think I've been around the whole site now and commented on a few threads. What a brilliant site and so informative! It's got just about everything here you need, even the quizzes! I can't find the babbling forum though, but I'll keep looking.

I've always had cats but I lost my feral cat a few years ago, I rescued her while we were in Germany at 6 weeks old, she remained feral for the whole of her 17 years until the very end when she would venture into the front room and sit on my lap! 2 years ago I started feeding two stray cats who are also feral but they've learnt to trust me a little bit now and don't hiss when I put their food down. One day a Ginger cat appeared in the garden eating the bird seed (!) clearly starving! I called to him and he came straight to me. I decided to keep him in the house until I could find the owner, I thought he had got lost. I went to every cat home, vet, and social media sites trying to find his cat mum. Eventually I got an email from a man who recognised Jasper, his story was so sad. He and his brother lived with a single mum in a small cluster house with two dogs and her son. She didn't feed the cats and it was left up to the neighbours to feed them (he sent me a photo). The people where she lived contacted the RSPCA who visited and reported her to the housing association, she was evicted and left leaving the cats behind. Jasper's brother apparently died and it was then that Jasper left that area and found my garden. I'm so glad he did, after the story he was straight to the vets for neutering, chipping and jabs! So happy ending for him and I love him to pieces! I now have a Black cat who also looks as she might be feral, she's young, no more than 7 months I'd say and she runs as soon as I look at her but she has made friends with Jasper and they play together in the garden. She will eat the food I put down for her but only when I'm out of site. I'll be doing the same with her as I did with Jasper and try and find an owner but I suspect she was born in the wild so she's going to be much harder work. But I'll persevere!

Love the site and I'll be here often :)

For your new stray kitty-try not looking at her-sit sideways outside reading or talking but don't look at her. ignore her then she will get used to you quicker. She only knows how to not be prey for other animals. Also petting Jasper in front of her will also help build her confidence. He will show her that you don't mean harm. Some cats are monkey see monkey do type of learners.

I am so glad Jasper made it into your garden. Sounds like you all get along wonderfully.

Have you named that little girl yet? you can try giving her stinky food on a plate to get her closer to you. Food is a really good motivator. It will take about a month to six months to tame her depending on her time table. Some kitties never tame but they always know where food is so they come back.

Thank you for being a great kitty momma! welcome to this site! So many great people and great stories of cats!

Hi there! Welcome to you from sunny Florida USA!!  We are so glad that you found us too!!

You are definitely in the right place! Thank you so much for everything you have done and continue to do for these very lucky cats. This world could use more people like you in it.

Yes, you definitely will persevere with that little girl. I think that she already knows that you are her friend but she's scared. She will come around and learn to trust you as Jasper and the others have. Do you have any pictures of any of your cat kids that you can share?

I have 2 Persian sisters, Lilith and Sophie that were rescued from an abandoned home not far from me. I also have Henry, a black DSH that I found at a local no kill shelter. He had been surrendered there at 3 months of age and stayed there until 8 years of age when I saw his bio and went to get him out of there.

This is an international site so you will be meeting cat lovers from all over the world. We look forward to getting to know you and your cats!

Since you are a longtime caregiver of feral cats, I encourage you to apply for a badge that will identify you as such by posting your story (if you haven't done so already) on this thread here. http://www.thecatsite.com/t/251561/friend-of-ferals-award-badge-apply-here

Hi Foxxycat and thank you for your welcome. That's good advice! She comes at the same time every day so I suspect she's hiding or sleeping all day somewhere. Unlike my other two ferals, Lucy and Whisper she looks as if she's interested in me. I caught her watching me with intent one day so I'm hopeful she's going to learn to trust me. I will definitely do as you suggest. I'm calling her Jet because she's as black as Jet with the most beautiful Emerald green eyes I've ever seen on a cat and she's very playful. Having a full belly probably helps to and also that she's got a friend in Jasper. Well, I have spent most of the day on this forum and I think it's brilliant!

Hi Kat021, lovely to meet you! I've got an Auntie in Florida, do you know her? Ha ha. I don't have any photos but I will definitely get some now and post them on. I am hopeful she will learn to trust me, she is very young which is a bonus. My other two ferals were a little bit older when they found me so I didn't hold out much hope I could tame them enough to bring them indoors. I suspect they are Mother and daughter as they're always together and very clearly love one another.

Your cats are very lucky to have you as their cat mum and that's so sad that Henry was in a shelter for so long! He must have thought an Angel had rescued him when you took him home!

I'm going to have a look at the link you've posted, that would be nice to have a badge :)
