Hi guys please help!

I fed my 8 week kitten a bit of Pet Ag KMR 2nd step. (since I can't find wet kitten food, and per some recommendations, I wanted to feed some KMR to complement nutrition).

Tuesday night I gave her some for the first time, as soon as she tried it (a few licks) she went to the door (not litterbox) and had really soft stool. I thought it was a coincidence and thought it was stress (I had to leave her with a friend since I had to travel picked her up tuesday night, he said no soft stools while he had her).

Today, gave her a little bit, and she again had a diarrhea kind of poop. She was sleeping all day, and didn't eat much nor drank water.

Of course I am discontinuing the KMR and hope her tummy settles.

But just wanted to check with you guys, what should I do? Wait it out? take her to the Vet? I am over reacting?

Thanks in advance for your help I am really worried, this is my first kitten and I am scared.

Hello,

Sorry your little kitty isn't doing well.

I would say first, as always, taker her to the vet.  It's been a while since I had a young one in my life, but I would call the vet.  Kittens are fragile.

Has she been to the vet since you've gotten her?  Was she checked for worms?  Was she found or adopted from a shelter??

If adopted through a shelter, did they treat her for anything, and what were they feeding her.

Just getting some questions out of the way.

What is your little girls name...

Also, what may help.  There is a kitten care section.  Don't be surprised if they move your thread to that section.

It may have some answers you're looking for.  So sorry I couldn't be more help.

Vet care is key.  Not sure if you have other animals, but find a vet if you can through friends, one who is trust worthy of your kitty.

there are two answers.  The first, we dont necessarily approve the second step.  Not so few kittens has problems with getting used to it.  So I recommend to continue with the usual KMR  (preferably the powder version, its more reliable than the liquid one - which MAY give problems with diarrhea)  or if you want a change, try goats milk.

The second answer is, something here doesnt sound right.   This is too much just for some slight indigestion.  Its sooner as if the batch were really bad - in practice a poison.

Possibly its something entirely else, the eating of this KMR is just sheer coincidence.

So, a vet visit  asap is in order.   In the very best its some sort of virus, alike is common with humans "a doc will cure it in three days, otherwise it will go over by ifself in about half a week".  but dont take any risk.  Let the vet decide.

And return the package to the seller / factory, for them to look what it is wrong with the contend.

Oh no! I am so sorry! How sad. You didn't do anything wrong. There could have been something else going on that was coincidental. I don't know anything about this second step KMR but I doubt that would have done this. I am sending you hugs and so sorry kitten didn't make it.

No you didnt.  It must have been something entirely else, and the KMR just a pure coincidence.  And thus, she was probably going to die anyways.  From what I dont know, not many diseases take down a healthy kitten in barely 24 hours.

If it was this KMR, someone must have poisoned it by purpose. And against such there is no defence.

I mean, it wasnt old or a bad batch, it doesnt work so..  She got her diarrhea practically instatly no?

Life is a very fragile phenomena. Sometimes they hang on although terrible bad odds. But sometimes it ends just like that.  that is the reason why we must try to protect and keep the  life already delivered to us.

The wall against darkness is really thin, and the way may be surprising short.

Do mourn her. You need it and she had deserves it. But dont accuse yourself.  After all, you asked for advice on a good forum, you went to the vet and payed for it too... You tried as well you could.

After the immediate mourning is done, please consider do what you can do.  Try and save another dear life, adopt a cat in need of a good home.  Preferably from a high kill shelter.   But if you get Chosen somewhere else - grab the chance.   I recommend you, and I beg you.

Not instead of her, but in her name, to honour her memory.

RIP little one!

I agree that the second step did not kill her. It sounds like she had other issues and there was nothing you could do. RIP sweet soul! [emoji]128149[/emoji]

Please do not let this discourage you from adopting another kitten. This does not normally happen! There are so many kittens needing homes.
