Hello i have a year old female cat that i just found out is pregnant. She got out before we could fix her. She has become really protective of my husband and I. We got told to keep her away from the other cats and away from their cat food. When we did that she became worse. She is now dumping her water over. She is half way threw her pregnancy and when we keep taking her away from the other cats food she attacks us. But the thing i dont get is when she is out with everyone she is fine. But when we are in the bedroom anyone who comes into our room she attacks them and draws blood. I really need help with her. We have had her since she was 2 days old.

Cats just love to surprise us that way, don't they.  : )

Our female cats got pregnant before we could spay them as well (they are fixed now, but still managed to have litters first). There are a lot of hormones and instincts going on in these cats. The need to keep her kittens away from other cats, the need to protect her den-sight, to get all the food she can and while she can. She may be extra loving towards people (cats tend to like people present during the birthing process, they may even hold-back until their person comes to them). Offer her a room where she can be by herself with multiple den choices, a clean litter box, high-quality food, and water. Don't give her any medications that could injure the kittens inside of her. Keep towels, cloths and kitten forumla ready in case needed.

Momma cats generally know what to do, just give them the space and comfort they feel like they need and they will often do the rest. The first birth, however, can be hard on them, so keep an eye on the kittens when they are born as the mother sometimes doesn't know what to do with them (we've lost kittens this way before).

Also, bottle-fed cats (I know from personal experience) sometimes have aggression and over-protection issues and don't know how to behave around other cats. This can be hard to work with, but with patience and understanding you may be able to stop her from attacking people. Again, she may just want some space and to be left alone by strangers until the kittens are older.

I hope this helps some. Hang in there and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Best of luck!

If she and the other cats are getting along, there is no reason to separate them until she has her kittens. She will want and need to be alone with her kittens at that time.

If she is attacking your other cats in your bedroom, it means she is trying to claim your room as "hers". It may be where she wants to have her kittens eventually.

Knocking her water over may be how she is expressing her frustration at being "managed" right now.

Are your other cats fixed?

If your other cats are fixed and she gets along with them fine, I'd say let her be out. As she gets closer to delivery time, she will need to be confined so that she gives birth in a safe place (you do t want her to have the kittens in an obscure place or where the kittens could get stuck/hurt.)

Also, why did the vet say to keep her away from the other cats' food? What and how much are you currently feeding your girl?

But the thing I dont understand about her is she was raised up with the people she is now attacking. The only two she hasn't attacked is my husband and I

We are feeding her kitten chow and the only cats are fixed. Because the only cat that she will not beat up is the 8 year old male that is an out door in door cat.

It's her hormones causing the behavior and very likely her protective instincts kicking in. It's actually not all that uncommon. I fully expect that once she is able to be spayed things will calm down. (Note that it takes 45-60 days for hormones to complete leave the system after a cat is altered, so behavior often doesn't change overnight.)

Female cats tend to fight with each other when one is pregnant. When our girl, Tabby, was pregnant she actually chased her mother (who was spayed) off of the property for probably a week or two. They still fight now, years later, when both are spayed. There are no serious injuries, but it is stressful. There is nothing we can really do about it, but it goes to show cats raised together with plenty of space, food, and bathroom areas can still find something to argue about.

On the other hand, girls tend to get along really well with males, whether they are neutered or not. Tabby is best friends with her uncle, Tiger-tail, and spends much of her time with him. Tiger, however, now ignores or swats at his sister, Scardy-cat, whenever she gets near. The poor thing use to be his best friend. They could have their own soap-opera.

How much food are you feeding her?  She needs a lot of food so her kittens are healthy and grow inside her.  This could be why she is eating the other cats food, she doesn't have enough.
