First off -

This spot is up for grabs. If you are interested in doing the Wednesday question of the day every week, send me a PM. :)

Do you clip your cat's claws? If yes, when was the last time you clipped them?

I do clip Abby's claws. Some times it's a huge struggle, other times not too bad. I snuck up on her yesterday and clipped one front paw while she was sleeping. I'll try to get the other one today, but I think she's on to me. ;)

Yes, MoglI gets his front claws clipped every week or two and the back ones once a month. I did all four paws two weeks ago, so the front ones need it again. He generally doesn't put up a fight if I wait till he's sleepy.

Out of the six cats, four of them are declawed. Mollipop and Tabby both are not declawed and yes, we do clip claws the first Sunday of every month.

Tabby is a dream for clipping claws. She's perfectly willing to lie in my arms and Rick can clip away. She also gets her ears completely washed out at that time, too.

Mollipop? The girl is a nightmare for clipping. You'd think we were killing her. Such screaming and carrying on. She's like a feline whirling dervish in my arms. "Molli! No! Molli! Stop! Molli! Please stop! No!" And so on. We usually manage to get 7 or 8 claws done without me getting too many scratches. We put her on the bathroom floor, she stalks away with her tail held high and kitty-cussing us the entire time.

Maple's declawed in front, so she doesn't get clipped (but those back talons of hers need clipping soon). The youngin's get clipped every other Saturday, or thereabouts. I got Oliver and Pea-Pea on this past Saturday, then Oscar on Monday.

I only do the front claws, unless the back claws look like they are really getting long. Have only really had to do Pea-Pea's back nails, and only twice so far. The boys' back nails seem to take care of themselves.

I think every few weeks. honeybee and pumps let me trim but not the monster. we let her be. she gets clipped at the groomers so twice a year. she bites and growls. there is no way the claws get trimmed. sometimes I can get a claw or two done. she doesn't like her feet touched at all. when they had to do blood pressure on her=there was no way she was allowing it unless they put hand down then she puts paw ontop otherwise forget it. her pressure was high from stress so we don't bother her.

We don't trim out cats ourselves any longer - both of them have become far too difficult allowing us to do so.

We have our vet do it when we bring them in for other reasons (it's complimentary) and, have also brought them in specifically just to have that done and paid for it. We both dislike fighting them on the task; it's just easier to bring them in.  Thankfully, both use scratching items religiously so their claws never get too out of control.  Cocoa's are really difficult to even see; being long haired and dark in color.  And Casper ugh, his age has made him so much more cranky about it.

Yeah, I get scratched on occasion while trying to clip their nails, usually while carrying them to my chair (none of the youngin's like to be picked up or carried). Sometimes though, I'll get scratched with a hind claw while clipping the front. At that point I stop and have a small talk with them to let them know this IS happening, and they are I am NOT stopping again till I'm done. Totally in that "mom" voice. Afterwards, they jump off and everything is just as it was before I picked them up.

I'm a mean mama, but can't let those nails get too long. Even by the third week, they are like little daggers.

...with the cats...
yes, i clip my cats claws! the last time was a week and two days ago. all 3 cats will be having another 'salon day' tomorrow, as i'm hearing punky's claws clicking on the floor when she's walking.

i trim both front and back claws on each cat, though the back ones usually just need a tiny bit trimmed off. of course, punky has two extra digits complete with claws and paw pads as well as an extra dew claw on one of her back feet (no paw pad on that one) -- so she has 3 extra claws to trim.

all 3 cats wiggle around a bit when i'm trimming their claws, but not overly much. they know they'll be given treats after each one of them completes their 'salon day'.

I clip the front claws when they need them usually at least once a month.  I usually only do the front ones.  Patches isn't too difficult, he doesn't like it but I don't have any issues getting his done.  Alice is my problem child.  I usually end up getting hers done in two sessions.  Much crying and wriggling trying to get away.  I will push it until she starts mouthing my hand.  I know the next step is a true bite so I give up and go back later to finish.

I've never clipped my cats' claws - mum won't hear of it, despite Asha regularly getting caught on things and ruining several blankets, pairs of jeans etc etc  Oh the joys of living at home! ;)

I used to trim Angel's about once a month or so. I used to tell him it was time for his"mani, pedi."
I would sit in a kitchen chair, & put him in my lap facing out, so his back was against me. I just did one paw at a time.

He whined about it most of the time, but he was pretty good about letting me get them all done.

I understand an absolute no stance on declawing but I don't get it for clipping claws.  Does your kitty go outside?  If so than I kind of get it.  Those sharp claws are better for quick climbing and defense.

No denice denice , they don't go outside. Mum just takes against change sometimes, and is being so vehement about this every time I bring it up that it's just easier to let the subject lie. Families are weird sometimes :lol3:

I can't imagine NOT clipping their nails. If I don't do it as often as I do, they decide to use my box spring as an extra scratch post.

Speedy does not seem to mind at all, having her nails trimmed.  I just did it today.
I tend to do it more often and cut off only little bit because I am afraid of getting to close to the quick.  She is pretty mellow about anything like this, even toothbrushing.  I usually massage between her toes!!
I should say, I do it with baby nailclippers rather than cat clippers, but I just cannot handle those.  I know this is probably not what vets recommend, but I have a lot more control with the baby clippers!  of course, there is a small treat involved after the manicure.

Some of my cats I could clip but out of 8 of them I could only clip 3 of them. I only have one cat left and I never could clip her nails. In fact I'm taking her tomorrow to get her nails clipped and have them give her fluid. I can't do that either.

Yes, I clip Mingo's claws when they start to feel like needles. He doesn't mind the clipping, but he does mind being held. He doesn't like being held for any reason. I do his front and sometimes the back. He does a good job of chewing his back claws himself most of the time. It's funny to watch him sitting with a toe in his mouth, chewing away.

I've owned MANY cats and have never clipped any of them, dogs yes, they grow until they curl under the toe, but cats? I've never had that problem with cats and I mess with their claws all the time, looking at them, squeezing and inspecting them, and I've never seen them get too long. Of course they use a scratching board regularly and all my cats get to scratch trees in the backyard so maybe they keep them down.  I never bathe them either, unless they have diarrhea or something catastrophic.
