She's so sweet but stinky lol.

I just adopted my sweet girl this past Saturday from my vet's rescue and she has rotten egg-esque gas and diarrhea since she came home. They estimated that she's about 8 weeks but I think she's younger than that as she is still getting teeth and can't really handle dry kibble, she's long and lanky like a runway model with legs for days. I didn't have a spare bedroom or crate so I modified a pack n play crib as I have another cat Im introducing her to.

She was coughing and sneezing for a few hours Saturday but it stopped by that evening. She's sneezing like once a day or less now but she opens her mouth when purring sometimes like she's mouth breathing but not panting. She was sent home with science diet kibble for kittens and I got her some canned kitten food (fancy feast kitten, will switch to wellness once her tummy troubles are over). I didn't abruptly change her diet. Her stools were loose saturday and turned to yellow watery/mucousy diarrhea by sunday. She has had rotten egg smelling gas since I picked her up. She wasn't really eating and very sleepy but I managed to get pedialyte and some baby food meats in her. She went to the vet monday and they saw for themselves what we are dealing with. Her fecal test came back clean and she's on an antidiarrheal for 3 days. She had one solid stool yesterday but it didn't last, my poor girl sounds like a ketchup bottle being squeezed. The smell so bad that after she uses the litter box she's crying to get out the crib
. I try to let her explore but if she passes gas there is poop everywhere or on me, so I keep her on a blanket or puppy pad at all times. I have never experienced this with a kitten before. Im weighing her daily ( 839-841g) and syringe feeding her pedialtye to keep her hydrated. Other than that she's a total purring cuddle bug (she purrs nonstop
) and I am in love.

Is there anything I can feed her to help bind things and to soothe her little bottom? I can get her to eat about 2 teaspoons of wet food but thats it, she's using her litter box regularly, and drinks water. I called our vet and she has an appointment Friday. According to her medical records she's vaccinated and de-wormed. I just want to keep my little girl healthy. Are there other things I should have her tested for?

Oh, yikes. She needs to be texted for parasites like coccidia and giardia for sure. Poor baby.

Thank you for adopting!

Thanks for your help. Do they test for this from a stool sample? My other cats never had issues with worms or parasites but we still had them de-wormed.  The little lady just ate, took her pill & had some pedialyte and she's purring away in my arms.

This is an emergency!!!

Friday may be too late! Your kitten is very ill. Please call the vet and ask to pick up medicine immediately!

Your kitten probably has Coccidia and needs Albon, though Ponazuril will wipe it out almost immediately, but not all vets will prescribe it.

Coccidia requires a special test. It does not show up in regular fecals. A highlight is yellow, smelly diarrhea that will kill a kitten and will not go away on its own. But do not wait to be tested! Insist on medicine now!

Continue with pedialyte and wet food mixed with pedialyte. Powdered PetAg KMR mixed with pedialyte and given by kitten bottle or syringe would be good too.

Keep me posted!
.

Good! Let me know! Don't mince words. Your kitten needs antibiotics.

@sarthur2  & @talkingpeanut

Once again I want to thank you both so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

We just got home from our visit and she does have coccidia. We were given antibiotics, more anti diarrheal medication, and some prescription cat food. I started giving her KMR mixed pedialyte Sunday and I believe that is what has kept her from getting dehydrated, we will continue until her treatment is completed. She lost a little weight but I will nurse my sweet baby back to health. She has a re-check in 14 days and in the mean time I am sanitizing ALL of our litter boxes today and all bedding is being washed so we can keep both girls healthy.

Thank goodness you took her in today!

Yes, a thorough litter box cleaning and hot water washing of bedding is the way to go.

Which antibiotic is she on?

They gave us Albon, she had a dose before we left the office. I was able to speak with the rescue coordinator to let her know & to make sure her littermates are treated.

It's great you let the rescue know to treat the litter mates. They will likely have it too, and any other kittens/cats that were exposed.

This should clear it, but sometimes it can take more than one round. Albon is effective, but slower acting than Ponazuril.

Keep us posted on her progress!

She woke up meowing and purring today! I steam cleaned and sanitized everything yesterday while my little Onyx slept. Last night was a little rough, she had a blow out & needed a bath, boy did she protest. Im still I syringe feeding her every few hours because she's still a little fatigued but she's wants to eat. But she has not had any diarrhea today so far, just a little gassy.  I'll keep check on her weight and intake. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter kitten she is just so loving. My girl is on the mend.

Good news! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

If the diarrhea stays at bay, she should begin gaining weight and energy. Poor baby has had it rough. Thankfully she has a wonderful care giver in you!
