My cat is six month old and he has a temporary ear inflamation..But the problem is that he won't eat and the doctor said that it's perfectly normal for him to lose his appetite as the inflammation affects the entire face somehow...but it's been 36 hours since he last ate and i'm so worried..Is there something i can do to trick him into eating anything..Thanks in advance.

Going more than a day without food is cause for concern. A cat who does't eat is at risk for developing fatty liver disease. You must get your cat to eat. Does your cat like canned food? Give him that instead of dry food. Canned food is more appealing and yummier than dry food. Warming canned food for a few seconds may make it more appealing. Stinky seafood based canned foods usually work pretty well as do gravy based foods. Add toppers like crushed up freeze dried meat treats on top of food. FortiFlora works great a a topper. It's actually a digestive supplement but it's basically just animal digest, the same stuff dry food is coated in and is addicting to cats. Your vet may have FortiFlora or you can just buy it online from Amazon and other places.

You can also try meat in broth baby food. Only these are the safe one to give to a cat and only temporarily as they do not contain the ncessary vitamins and minerals a cat needs: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/225595/anyone-else-have-an-only-gravy-licker/60#post_3749885

If your cat won't eat on his own you may have to syringe feed him. Turn pate canned food into soup by adding water and smushing it down with a spoon or giving it a whirl in a blender or food precessor. Use an oral syringe, maybe 3 ml or 5 ml size, to slowly squirt the canned food soup into your cat's mouth. Most pharmacies have oral syringes and pet stores sell them as feeding syringes for orphaned kittens and dogs.

The vet can prescribe an appetite stimulant if the food tricks don't work.

I don't feed my cat canned food or dry food..He only eats fresh chicken or fish that I prepare at home only for him...maybe the only canned food he eats is tuna and i've tried it now bs still he won't eat it..I used a syringe to give him some water but I did't try to feed him with it...if he doesn't eat in the next few hours i'll do it..Thank you.

I didn't realize that you are in Egypt. A home cooked diet is fine as long as you make it a complete balanced diet. Just givng pieces of meat is not enough for a cat. There's a forum here on TCs with info about home cooked diets if you wish to make sure that your cat is getting all of the essential vitamins and minerals http://www.thecatsite.com/f/65/raw-amp-home-cooked-cat-food

There aren't many TCS members from Egypt. I found two threads about raw and commerical foods in Egypyt but I don't think those threads would be helpful to you.

Try poaching the chicken in water and then turning it into soup with some of the cooking water and a blender. Syringe that into your cat.

I'm not sure how an ear inflammation can affect the whole face. Can you get a second vet opinion?

He doesn't just eat chicken or fish I add potato and carrots to them and I mash them together.. I checked with the vet first before he started eating that and he usually enjoys his meals very much..The vet said that the inflammation could easily affect his swallowing besides it's bothering him way too much,it's no surprise that he's not eating..Thank You so much I will try doing that..But honestly I've tried asking two vets before and they usually contradict one another..

Cats have no need for veggies in their diet. I'm concerned that your cat is not getting the vitamins and minerals he needs. Many vets don't really know much about proper diets for cats. Here are some recipies for properly balanced home cooked diets: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/263751/cooked-recipes-thread Hopefully one of the recipes will have ingredients that you can find in your country.

I'm not sure how else to get your cat to eat other than the suggestions I've already posted. Is your cat on antibiotics to help with the inflammation?

I've tried to food syringe him a little amount of food about 3ml and yes,he's on antibiotics...Thankfully his ear is getting better..I'll see what happens now regarding the amount of food he just ate and after a few hours I'll give him some more food...Thank you for your concern I will ckeck the mentioned forum.
