Was given a kitten 2 1/2 weeks ago that has herpes virus.  Didn't know until symptoms showed up and went to the vet.  All he suggested was that I give her powdered Ly-sine.  This takes 3-4 weeks.  She's getting worse.  A friend suggested cs so I went to the Vitamin Shoppe this morning to get some.  10ppm, I mixed 5 drops in a small amount of water and gave her some internally.  Since then, her fever is coming down.  My question is has anyone used cs for herpes virus and gotten results?  I'm so afraid of losing her.

If she is not eating, she needs to get back to the vet for some fluids and possibly an antibiotic.  If she is congested, steam her frequently throughout the day in the bathroom.  Get the shower good and steamy and then sit in there with her until the steam dissipates.  If she's not eating, try warming up some wet (canned) food for her in either a water bath or in the microwave for a few seconds.  It's absolutely imperative that she continue eating.  You might need to syringe feed her.  You can pick up a syringe at the pharmacy or at a feed store.  Get some plain baby pedialyte and mix with some water into canned food until it's runny enough to go through the syringe.  Slowly, syringe the food into the side of the mouth between her cheek and gums.  Don't go too fast or she'll aspirate on it and that could create other issues.  Also, try offering her plain meat baby food, chicken or turkey.  I like the BeechNut brand because it doesn't contain corn starch, but Gerber works fine, too.  Continue giving her the Lysine.  If it's tablets or capsules, you can grind the tablets and mix into wet food.  Capsules can be opened, dumped onto wet food and mixed in.

How much L-Lysine are you giving her?  I know with adult cats, the flare-up dosage is 1000 units, spread over 2 doses, 500 in the morning and 500 in the evening.  Not sure with kittens.  Then they get 500 maintenance dose forever, also split between 2 doses.

WHAT is cs?

Doctor has prescribed 1/2 scoop of 100gm twice daily.  CS is colloidal silver.  Do you know of anyone that has used it with herpes virus?

Thank you for posting.

We had a kitten with the herpes virus his eyes were gunky and he had a lung infection two rounds of antibiotics cleared up the secondary infections and we didn't vaccinate until those were done. He always ate well and was active but without much worning we lost him at 2 years to kidney failure. The cs worked well for me on my daughter never used it on a cat

She turned the corner yesterday, thank God.  I'm thankful the vet finally put her on Clavomox, along with terramycin for her eyes.  I forced water with a syringe, took her in a steam filled bathroom 2xs daily and used saline nose drops.  She saw the vet today and was told to continue with what I am doing except stop the saline nose drops.

Thank you everyone for your concern and advice.

Glad to hear she's doing better.  It's always worrisome when the littles get sick.  Just a caution about clavamox.  It can cause vomiting, so keep an eye on her and watch for that.

Thank you, Jesus, she has not had any reaction to the Clavomox. The only thing that I have noticed since she has been sick is that when my almost 4 month old tries to play with her, is that she starts having symptoms again.  Naturally, I try to keep her far apart from the 4 month old.  Sometimes, it just happens. For the most part, the baby stays in the kennel.
