Female Cat Smells Bad

My female cat smells really bad and is leaving little brown puddles of discharge around the house, I am really worried. My cats name is Mixy and she's 7 years old. She's never been spayed as she's been an inside cat along with her sister Molly. I have been living on my own and last October I got a cat for myself called Nemo, he's the best cat ever. About 2 months ago I moved back home with my mum and I brought Nemo with me and him and the two girls got along just fine. However, recently they've been fighting a lot with each other and I think I caught Nemo and mixy mating because she was licking herself a lot and rolling around on the floor after making a really weird noise. At first I didn't really think anything of it so I just left it but since then the cats have been fighting a lot. Nemo had to move in with my Bestfriend because my mum couldn't take the fighting. Today I came back from a week away in Spain and there was a strange smell in the living room. It smelt like something was dying underneath the floorboards but then we heard a growling noise from under the sofa and it was Mixy. As soon as we moved the sofa she ran away. Shortly after that I went upstairs to the bathroom and I could smelly the same smell from the living room. I looked around and mixy was hiding behind the sink and when I tried to approach her she growled at me again and wha moved away. She left behind a Milky discharge which had blood in the middle. I left her there for about 20mins and came back to check on her. She was in the bathtub and this time as soon as she saw me she growled. And in the bath there were little brown puddles of discharge and the smell is extremely bad. It really smells like something has died and is rotting. I'm really worried she had a miscarriage or infection? This would be her first litter.

Thank you so much. Is there any idea what it could be?
As you suspected, it could be an infection or a miscarriage. Let us know what the vet says!

Once this is resolved, she really needs to be spayed and your male needs to be neutered. It's not healthy for them to be fighting and mating indiscriminately. They should be able to coexist once their hormones calm down and once they are reintroduced properly.

Please get her into the vet ASAP it sounds very life threatening and being smelly is not normal.

I am definitely going to get Nemo neutered, and he isn't going to be living here anymore. He's a lot happier at my best friends house where I used to live. He only came back so my family could look after him whilst o went on holiday. He has a lovely home environment where he won't have to fight with anyone.

How are things going?

I am guessing that your cat has had emergency surgery by now to remove a fetus or fetuses that died inside of her, but that she could not pass on her own.

Please give us an update!

Thank you for all the help guys, we couldn't get through to an emergency vet but we called into a local vet this morning and described everything. At the time of the call Mixy's condition had improved and the discharge had stopped. The vet said that since the discharge has stopped we shouldn't bring her in right away and we should watch her. I still made an appointment for her to be seen on Friday and the vet said if anything changes we should bring her in before then. She's behaving normally now, eating and playing as usual.

Hmm. She needs to be spayed. This will take care of anything left behind in her uterus. At the very least, she should get a round of antibiotics in case there is infection. I'm glad you have a vet appointment on Friday.

I think this could be an infection of the uterus and I urge you to get her to the vet before it is too late. The discharge may have stopped, but it will likely return as the problem is still there. Now would be the best time for an emergency spay before other problems arise.

Sometimes it's worse if the discharge stops. . .if it's draining it's less likely to build up a fatal amount of toxins in her blood. I'm not sure why the vet isn't more concerned but it wouldn't be the first time a vet was too casual about a serious matter. I don't like the idea of waiting until Friday, do you think you could get her in tomorrow? It doesn't sound good, tbh.

I also do not understand why so many vets seem to tell people their kitty is fine, only to need emergency care after following their advice of waiting it out. How is Mixy today?

Hi guys, thank you for your help. Mixy was booked in to have surgery today. She has an infection of the womb which she developed because she was not neutered. She's having an emergency spay today and the vet will call me to let me know how the procedure went.

I assume it's pyometra. Hopefully, the vet can get it all. She'll need antibiotics at home as well. It's a very dangerous infection.

It's what I suspected before. Glad she's being spayed today. Let us know how she's doing.

One of my friends went through this years ago with her cat.  This was her first cat and her hubby at that time believed that spaying would hurt her.  They did not do it because she was indoors only in a single cat household.  She too had to have emergency surgery.  She is now a healthy senior adult.  After this all the other cats they have adopted have been spayed and neutered.  That experience scared her hubby and he changed his mind very quickly about the issue.
