We are going out of town for the weekend, the 64th day would be the day after we come back. Can I lock her in the bathroom or would that be to traumatic for her? My  husband is worried about her giving birth on the carpet. She has been spending a lot time under my sons bed? I do have friends coming over to check on her while we are gone. If i put blankets under the bad will she have the kittens on the blankets or on the carpet? Sorry for all the questions this is my first time and don't want anything to happen to my cat or my carpet during this process

If you are not there with her there is no way to prevent her from giving birth in a place you do not wish her to, and even when there they do seem to pick their spot and stick to it no matter what you'd like. I would guess that she may delay her labor until you return home. Most cats go to day 65 anyhow, so it might not even need to be delayed. I wouldn't lock her in a bathroom, but that is up to you. Is she familiar with the people coming to check on her? Cats late into pregnancy often try to run out of the house, even if they've never been out before their flight instinct is strong...so make them aware and to use extra caution.

Don't worry too much about your carpet. I wouldn't lock her in the bathroom, it could stress her out, unless you have a MASSIVE bathroom. If you have a spare bedroom that she likes to spend time in, you could lock her in there with a litterbox, and things like that. If she is 64 days the day you get back, she probably will still be pregnant! Most give birth at 65 days, mine gave birth around the 67-68 day mark.

She may be stressed if she goes into labor without her favorite human there to comfort her, but 99% of births go smoothly, so I wouldn't worry too much about something going wrong if she gives birth while you're gone. Just make sure the room she is in, or the house in general is kept warm, and that she has different spots for the nest. Kittens can't regulate body temp and need to be warm, so I would leave the AC off while you're gone if you didn't plan to already. Maybe leave the "fan" setting on if where you live gets super super hot.

Hopefully she is comfortable with your friends, as if she gives birth and they go near her she may become frightened or aggressive in order to defend the babies. Or try and run out of the house.

If she is young and a first time mom, she might not even give birth in a nest you make her because she will be in pain and scared.

I made four different ones for mine, and when I noticed she was in labor I laid blankets and towels and puppy pads all over most of the carpet, and she ended up giving birth on the barren spots and even moving towels in order to give birth on the carpet. She moved around after each kitten and I had 6 different blood and mucus covered spots on my bedroom carpet. Just put some cold water on the spot, pat at it, put some baking soda and vinegar on it, stain remover if you want, let it sit for a while and pat it out, repeat if needed. But it will come out! Shampoo the carpet if you have to. I didn't get around to treating the stains on my carpet until the next day because mine wasn't taking care of her babies after the first feeding hardly at all and I hand to hand rear them a good part of the time. She actually pooped on herself on the last kitten, and on the carpet. But the stains lifted for the most part after just applying cold water, and all the way after baking soda vinegar mixture. The vinegar helped cover up the "birth" smell she left behind, but that scent did linger in my bedroom for five days no matter how much I cleaned. I have a sensitive nose though ;)

She is very comfortable with the friends I ask to stop by. My sister lived with me for two months when she first got pregnant so she is going to come check on her as well. Thank you for all the help. This will help show my husband not to lock her in the bathroom. Which is something I really really don't want to do seeing as she has never been lock anywhere before.

I crated my mom cat in a extra large dog crate when she was close to labor. I didn't want her going off and giving birth underneath one of the beds. I woke up one morning and she had given birth during the night.

That was the plan for mine too, but she refused to stay in there. Started crying right when she went into labor and just had to come out! Haha
