My 9 year old cat has been starting to almost wheeze or cough.

At first i thought it was a fur ball, but he has never, to my knowledge, coughed up a fur ball before and nothing comes out of his mouth.

I tried to check if it was asthma after reading one of the forums on the website but my cat is only showing one of the signs and that is Squatting with shoulders hunched, neck extended and wheezing.

I have seen him do it only a handful of times over the past year and am slightly worried about it.

Any suggestions of what it could be would be helpful, thanks :)

It still could be asthma even if your cat is showing one of the common symtpoms. You should take your cat to the vet to be tested for asthma.

Agreed, only your vet can diagnose it. Plus, there's a chance it could be something else that is just as treatable (like a URI - my Lucky presented only with a cough last year).
