Hi everyone.I'm relatively new to the cat world but loving it. I feed my wonderful 1 yr old black cat , Tuffy, 2 cans of Fancy Feast a day and have also been giving him a "snack" of 1 chicken gizzard every day. He's very healthy and not too fat. But I wonder if the daily snack of chicken gizzard is harmful. Can anyone advise me?

I wouldn't think raw gizzards would pose a problem,  If you cook the gizzards, do not add any spices or any seasoning to the meat, so to avoid feeding your cat anything that might make him/her ill.  Your cat's menu would appears to be a balanced diet, given that you also feed him/her AAFCO-approved formulas.

Gizzards and other organs and meat, either raw or plain cooked, are fine as a treat

Thanks for the info. I just was concerned that maybe I was feeding too much gizzard. I started out feeding an all dry diet, but then started reading on TCS and changed to all wet. An immediate change to a glossy coat. So glad I found TCS.

We're glad you found us too!!  Welcome! Feel free to post LOTS of pictures of Tuffy!

Gizzards are a good treat. Much better than most treats that you'll find in the pet food aisle at the grocery store like Temptations.

I am so glad to see this post---so it is okay to give raw chicken liver or gizzard to them?  My cat would absolutely love it.  I've never let him have any willingly, but if he could have liver he would absolutely go insane for it!

Sure. Go for it. Some like it raw, others prefer cooked. Cats are obligate carnivores. Meat is what they need to thrive. I would make sure that what you give them is fresh and from a reputable supplier especially if you will serve it raw. It's a good snack that many cats really enjoy.

I have a local butcher shop I can get them from.  My cat is a fool over anything raw...if he is in the kitchen and I'm opening a package of raw meat he goes insane meowing and circling me, I've just never given him any.  I did catch him once licking the blood off some butcher paper steaks came in, so I think he will go crazy over liver.  He used to be an outside kitty (spent the first 10 years of his life outside) and he loved hunting/eating his own catch, so I am sure this will be a delight to him.  Thanks so much!  I learn something new all the time on here.
