My gray and white tabby who is 12 and male is vomitting. The stools are solid so there is no reason to believe he has parasites...but this symptom became common after i introduced him to a feral who did have parasites. If any of you have good links to these issues please inform me...oh please dont tell me about a good vet...they are so Clueless as to cat vomitting issues. I am a grown man and just cannot cope with cleaning up cat vomit. Please give some advice. Can he have parasites and not show it in the stool? Thanks

Unfortunately if your cat has been vomiting a lot he does need to go to the vet.  It sounds like you've had a bad experience at least once in the past with one, but he might do better if you tried a different vet.  However there are some home treatments you can follow until you get him there.

First, is he throwing up everything he eats or just sometimes?  If he's throwing up everything he eats, you need to get him to the vet by tomorrow as going without food for even short periods of time can result in cats developing fatty liver disease which is difficult to treat.  If he's been unable to hold anything down for days, he probably needs to go sooner than that.

Meanwhile, you can try boiling or baking some chicken and cutting it up into small pieces and mixing with boiled rice.  This is easy on his stomach and if he just has a passing stomach virus this might help him hold some food down.  An alternative is plain turkey or chicken baby food, without garlic or onions.

Since vomiting dehydrates your cat, you must make sure he is getting plenty of liquids.  If he's not drinking at all, you can try giving him some water with a syringe available at pharmacies.  You might also try some unflavored pedialyte which will help replenish necessary electrolytes.  Giving him fluids may even help with the nausea as dehydration causes nausea and a vicious circle results.

To answer your question - yes, it is possible for cats to have parasites that don't show up in the stool.

And I agree - no one enjoys cleaning up cat vomit!

I do have a couple  questions for you about this vomiting.  WHEN is it happening?  Is it within 15 minutes or so after he eats, or several hours later?  Is it mostly undigested food or a pile of mush or mainly bile?  This makes a difference.

If within about 15 minutes, then it's possible he's simply eating too fast (maybe before his new "buddy" can eat his food) and that's causing his issues. This is actually regurgitation rather than vomiting.   We can help you slow him down if that might be the cause.  OR if it's several  hours later but still appears to be undigested, that's indicative of a whole other issue, so you  need to give us, OR THE VET, exact information about this vomiting, to try to figure out the cause.

Be aware, stress can even cause vomiting,so can food intolerance and THAT can happen with a food they've been eating for years.

Maybe this article will help you:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/your-cat-throwing-up

We need more info. What food are you feeding? What parasite did the other cat have? Is the vomit food or bile? Is the cat keeping any food down at all? Is the vomiting AM, PM, after food?
