I need some advice. I've been feeding this big black cat for about a year, but he won't let me near him.  He started coming around because one of my cats who I adopted last year went into heat  a few days after I got her home. She's been spayed , but I started feeding him so he comes over every day to eat.  A few weeks ago I see a black cat in my yard and think it's the same cat; however this one didn't dart off.  I noticed this cat was smaller, solid black with a clipped left ear and nipples. I've been feeding her kibble since then. I thought she was safe because of the clipped ear.  This morning I woke up and there were two kittens on my deck,  an hour later three, now there are 4 kittens on my back deck. They run when I try to approach them. I need to find a way to trap them all, get them some type of medical care and find them homes. I already have 5 indoor cats who have all been fixed. I don't know how to begin to trap them and provide them medical care and find them homes. Any advice please? I can't just let them keep breeding. There are too many unwanted cats. The only good thing is the kittens are adorable 2 gray and white , another white and calico, and the other one is solid gray. I think she's trying to wean them. I noticed them nursing but also eating kibble.

Yes, they are appearing on your deck for food as it's weaning time.

The best way to trap them is to get a drop-trap. You can purchase one, or Humane Societies rent them out with a deposit. Or you can use a large dog crate.

Begin feeding them inside the trap (or crate) without setting the door to fall. Use wet food. Also the kittens really need wet food anyway.

Do this for 2-3 days, and then eventually, when they are all inside, quickly close the door. Put a blanket or towel over the trap or crate except for one end. Bring them inside and close them in a room with food, water, and a litter box. You'll want to sit on the floor with them and let them check you out. They will have to learn to socialize so they can be adopted, otherwise they will grow up feral. This may take a little time, but kittens adapt quickly!

Hopefully you'll get all 4 kittens at once, maybe mom too. If not, repeat the procedure.

Interesting, we see we cant trust entirely on the clipped ear.   I almost wonder, cant it be possible she is a foster momma?  The coloring on kittens isnt not entirely according to a solid black momma.  I think they cats can develop the milk tissues, even when spayed, if they are suckled upon.

She could perhaps have been a helping co-momma together with the biological mother, but after a while she become their solitary ward.

EDIT - rewriting some so the meaning is clearer. Although I see the TS did understood what I meant.

Thanks I will call the humane society for the trap. I was wondering how that was going to work trapping all four at once.

Interesting about the foster mama theory. I hope to get her to a vet too, just to make sure she is really spayed.

Thanks I hope I can too. I did get mama kitty to come into my sun room a little while ago. I cracked the door just enough for a small cat to get into. I used my smallest cat to measure the distance. Anyway I put a can fancy feast chicken and tuna on a plate and she creeped in and ate. Afterwards she walked around and checked out the room. I also put out some kibble, water and a small liter box in the sun room. I'm hoping they will all come in, I am definitely calling the Humane Society on Monday to see if they will rent me a large trap.I appreciate everyone's advice.

Oh, wow! Well, if mama will walk in, you may not need to trap her. Perhaps she will bring the kittens in herself in the next few days. Of course go ahead and get the trap.

It tells me that she's not feral, and at one time was a house cat, which will make this much easier.

Did you see the kittens today?

Oh I so hope so. She was  scoping out the sun room again a few minutes ago. I think she was a house cat at one time, perhaps abandoned. She won't let me touch her, but she comes up a few feet away and talks to me. She wraps her tail around herself like a feral, but she also looks me in the eye like a house cat.  The kittens are playing on my deck right now. I hope she gets them in before dark because I have raccoons that come out at night here. I'm going to bring the food inside here in a few minutes and pray they are all safe. I freak out having cats outside. Two of my cats were in and out cats, but they are 20 lbs. They were attacked by other animals, so they aren't allowed outside anymore.

I'm wondering if you begin feeding them in your sunroom and leave the door slightly ajar during the day if mom will bring them all in soon.

Yeah that's what I've been doing. The mom is coming in, but the kittens seem to only come in one at a time. They are hiding somewhere under my deck, The mom stayed on the deck all night and helped me scare off the raccoons.
