I have two cfa Persians with breeding rights. My Persians are like my children but I am a new breeder. My male was born 9/11/14 and I got him at 12 weeks. My female was born 3/2/15, I got her at 8 weeks. Both are very comfortable and well established with each other. She is on her second heat and the male just doesn't seem to "know where to put it" he is humping her back but he is trying so hard she's also rolling over and making it harder. They are both first timers. My vet says they're both healthy and they'll get the hang of it and my breeder says it's possible the male isn't mature but he sprays and calls. I'm kinda stumped. I'm mainly worried that while waiting for my male to "mature" and "figure it out" my female needs to be bred. My vet says this isn't the case but I've read (on Google) it's bad for them to go into heat without getting pregnant can cause cysts and other types of issues. What do I do? I don't mind getting a stud or whatever. I'll do whatever is necessary to keep my babies happy and healthy.

I also have Persians (himmies) about those exact ages and they recently had their first and only litter. It did take Darcy a few days and he actually only really got her the one time. I kept them separate when I could not supervise so I know this to be true, anyway, after that I kept them apart until her heat subsided. I'm not sure there's anything that you can do, he'll hopefully figure it out. If it's only her second heat it's probably okay if she isn't bred, but I wouldn't miss the next one. Good luck!

Actually, many breeders do not allow their females to mate until they are a minimum of 18 months old. Then, it's one litter per year, and no more than 3-4 litters total and the queen is retired. So there will be heat cycles that go unused. It's part of breeding.

I don't think you need to feel stressed at this stage. They will figure it out.

That is true, but the problems arises with time over the years. Its nothing you notice the first years - the problems is theretical the first years.  Becomes practical at perhaps 3- 4+ years.  Yours is still pretty young.
