Our 4 and 1/2 yr old Siberian has habitually done this for over 2 yrs.  He is one of two cats the same age.  The other cat is a grazer and he's a gobbler.  The frequency averages once every 4 days.  We've done all out everything we can think of.  Many visits and tests with the vet - no obvious issues.  Experimented with all types of food - now on a pate. Experimented with portion control.   Looked at all ways of slowing down the speed at which he eats.  He is groomed everyday and infrequently vomits hairballs.  He is otherwise healthy and although not "fat", maintains his weight, 8.5-9 lbs.

Any great ideas out there?

Often when this happens in the morning it is due to excess stomach acid.  You can try feeding him his last meal later.  Some people have had luck with giving a very small amount of food even just a treat and then giving the meal a half hour later.  The small amount of food soaks up the excess stomach acid.  You can also try giving an antacid like Pepcid at night.  If you go the route of Pepcid you want the regular strength one and not the complete just regular old Pepcid.

Thank you for your reply.  What strength Pepcid do you suggest for an 8lb cat?  When should we give it to him?
