So my lady has been acting strangely lately. She spends most of the day sleeping and she seems to be sleeping through the night - I can hear her usually when she goes to the litterbox and she meows at some point as well for a little while and I wake up to that from the deepest dream as well. When she goes to sleep somewhere she always does that in a place where she's away from me (my husband is usually away from home during the day due to work and comes home around 1 or 2 am), e.g. up in her cat tree nest, on the balcony, or she wanders all the way to the hallway, which is a kind of dark and quiet place.

She's also not interested in playing for long. She is normally very playful and can play for a really long time, but lately she's been maybe able to play a fraction of that, and she gets bored with it much easier, where she goes to feed herself from the foodbowl, or she just can't be bothered to jump at the toy.

Other than this she seems to eat normally, she never was a big drinker though, but she's strictly on wet and sometimes raw food so I believe she's hydrated as well.

That being sad, she's around 6 years old and I doubt she would be starting to get old just now....

I am heavily considering taking her to a vet but I also want to know if my concern is real in your opinions.

I want to also add that she has been coughing a few times.... I fear that it would be asthma but I really can't tell if she's struggling with a hairball or not. It's not like the throw-up sound, it's a proper cough, and sounds like she's almost coughing up something what she keeps swallowing down. She doesn't do this every day, but yesterday and the day before she did.

I would say definitely take her to the vet. Cats tend to want to hide when they're not feeling well, which is what it sounds like she's doing. Cats are also very secretive about their ailments, so any noticeable behavior change like this is worth a vet visit.

Also, the cough is a bit of a concern. It's always wise to get those checked out right away.    This isn't an emergency, but I'd try to get her in to the vet this week.

Just wondering - how is your little girl?    Doing better, I hope.

Oh, yes, at least she seems a little less aloof. Although, she tends to have mood swings, but it looks like she's a bit less depressed. She still sleeps much but I got her to play a few days ago. We have this fishing rod toy with a bird on it, and she used to love that, so when she didn't jump to it, I thought that something must be up.... then I figured that she always goes crazy for strings, so I cut off the birdie and she immediately made a run for it after that. I believe this already improved her overall behaviour.

She must have been a bit under the weather because of some diarrhea that was induced by a treat I haven't given her for a while (and it was problematic after the very first time, too but later on she got used to it) and just before the diarrhea, I was giving her deworming pills, which probably caused some stress. Ipa is a peculiar cat, she does really well on the very first time of taking her pill, then the next two times she makes a huge fuss about it, and she just makes everything harder for the both of us.... welp, cats... :D

On the other hand, there's something that still bothers me. Just as I got fed up with her diarrhea and buttscooting (hence the deworming treatment) I started slowly introducing her to raw meat. First offered her chicken breast, then chicken thigh and the last two times beef. She ate some pieces of chicken from both types of meat, then she refused the beef at first, and the second time she ate a whole chunk of beef! Other tahn that she got her normal wet food as usual... oh and ground pig's heart, but she has always loved that. Just as I introduced the raw meat to her, she just stopped pooping. I know that raw diet is reducing the frequency and quantity of stool but she hasn't eaten that much?.... So she pees and all but she doesn't even try to poop. Any insight on this?

Just a little update on this thread. Ipa hasn't had a BM for almost a week and I was already thinking of calling to the vet tomorrow, but tonight she finally produced something other than pee :D I'm a little less worried now :) If all goes well next week then I think a visit to the vet can be postponed still, as her annual checkup should be around next January or February.

A week is a long time to go between bowel movements, even on raw. I would still take her into the vet. I'm not convinced that she's recovered from whatever is going on.

I don't feed my cats raw so I don't know if this is normal or not.  I agree with @Molly92 that it sounds like something is still going on and that you should take her in for a check-up.  At least it sounds like your girl is a little happier these days, so that's progress.
