I have fostered many kittens before but this is the youngest so far. we found her last night (6 hours ago) with her umbilical sack still attached but she eats wonderful, crawls a lot and pees when I stimulate her but she hasn't popped yet it's been 3 feedings and she hasn't gone. should I worry ?

You can add a few drops of olive oil to her bottles. Thanks for taking this little one in!

MOD NOTE: Merged threads.

I have had this kitten since day 1 (we found him with the amniotic sac still attached and everything) he has been doing great. he usually poops like 4-5 times a day but he only pooped twice yesterday (when I pooped him) and it looked like he pooped on his own (he rolled in it). so to be clear he is still pooping just not as much. should I worry?

As long he is pooping everyday, its no problem.  Even some longer pauses may be OK.

But its a change, and it may signal something.   Has anything else changed?

Does he has enough of fluids?

If you worry, you can always give him some more fluid.  Either a few drops between the feeding, or dilute the kmr a shade more.

You can also give a couple of drops of coldpressed olive or coldpressed canola oil into his kmr.  Cant hurt, may help.

What kmr do you use?

You do weigh him every day, and see he gains minimum 6+ grammes every single day?

No, he could even skip a day and be okay. It sounds like his system is adjusting better now.

Do you know how much he weighs? Are you using KMR to feed him?

the night before last we changed his formula because the kind we usually use was out. Maybe the other one have him the poops.

Its probably that.  It may even be - he did pooped a little too often!

May I ask, what brand you used earlier, and what brand do you use now?

I want to add, goats milk is useful too, especielly if you dont have a good kmr at hand.  In some situations its even an interesting alternative.

Kittens eat a lot!

How much and how often are you feeding him?

I did just notice something when I looked at his umbilicals cord (I do it daily) and it looks a little infected. could that have to do with the pooping situation? I'm just really flipping out

If you think his cord is infected, you'll need to see a vet.

Is he having diarrhea?

You said he was pooping several times a day. Now he's not pooping?

You can add a couple of drops of olive oil to his formula to help with constipation. He only needs to poop once a day.

a week ago I started caring for a day old kitten and I was using a formula that someone had given to me (I don't know the brand) and she pooped 4-5 times a day (I heard that that wasn't normal) but we switched because we ran out to 21 st century the night before last, and he hasn't been pooping. he hasn't pooped since 3am. it seems like he tries to poop because I can feel his stomach like pushing. so should I switch to a new one (maybe a liquid One) or what do I do. he is still eating. I have also heard that he could just be adjusting to a new formula. please help I am so scared

The first formula he prob pooped a little too often.  Now its sounds as some constipation.

Remedy 1, is more liquid, typically by diluting a little more that formula.  This is quite common to do, esp with powdered formulas.

Remedy 2, is to add a couple of drops of coldpressed olive oil or coldpressed canola oil.  Or almost any vegetable oil, but preferably coldpressed.

You can do both steps simultaneously. Its not scientific, but practical.

Minerale oils are even more potent, but you must know what brand is OK to use internally...

Powdered formulas are usually more reliably than liquid formulas.  But if you can get goat milk, this is a good alternative. Raw is best, but bottled, canned or powdered are OK too, as long as they are full fat, ie around 3% or slightly more.

Ps.  You had already got these advices in your earlier tread, no?

Did you do anything of this?  With what result?

If the constipation continues, there are further steps to take.  But these mentioned are enough 19 times of 20.

I have tried watering down the formula the past two feelings. no change. how long are we supposed to wait? Tomorrow I will get some oil but how often do I use it? should I also get some liquid formula (pre made) or should I just let him Adjust? I feel bad I don't want him to be uncomfortable but he is still eating well, kneading and purring (I didn't even know kittens this young purred) so he seems likes he's feeling well but if you can will you write out a step by step plan I should follow and how long do I wait before taking him to the vet?

P.S. for future reference his name is Winnie

Pooping every day isnt necessary as such.  but if he is straining trying to poop, its apparent he is (somewhat) constipated, thus, you must do something.  As you are doing.

Continue with the watering down.  Try to borrow some oil from a neigbhour!!!   Im saying coldpressed olive oil or canola, because they are healthy in themselves. But you can use any human vegetable food oil...  Just a couple drops, in each feeding.  You CAN give more drops, but it may become runny instead.

You can use these steps simultaneously.

Yes, a change to another brand is sometimes necessary.  It doenst even need to be an inferior brand you use, its partly individual...  So a change, even to premade liquid may be wise.

As said, if you can get goats milk its almost always a safe change, and better than some inferior brand alike Hartz or Sargeant (some forumites are OK with these brands - while others has really bad experiences - I suspect its very uneven quality control - with them or their subcontractors().

So my suggestion is you look where and what sort of goats milk you can get.

I will write more in the evening on next steps.  Shall refresh my english vocabulary here.
