Thank you for taking time to read this. I am open to all comments, opinons, suggestions, anecdotes, etc

We(My wife and I) have a 5 y/o female named Mia that we got as a stray kitten. She is strictly an indoor cat and is slightly a chunky monkey at just a hair under 12 pounds.

She got her Feline Leukemia shot in May. A small lump appeared at the injection site( on her rear right leg) shortly thereafter. We didn't notice it sooner because that has never been her favorite place to be pet. We waited to see if it was just swelling from the shot. Then the lump grew quickly in less than a week. We took her to the vet and they performed a fine-needle aspiration. My wife got a call today and they said it was Spindle Cell Sarcoma. They vet also noted that the tumor was attached to the muscle. My wife was at work and couldn't give me all the details but said that words like amputation and chemo were used because the tumor is seemingly attached to the muscle.

Mia does not limp, does not react in pain when you touch the spot, has not had any personality or dietary changes, she still plays, jumps, cuddles, and loves us.

I've done a hours of reading today on the subject and there seems to be much consensus that the cancer will return even after aggressive treatment. I am not sure the last beautiful time our kitten has left should be spent in pain and suffering.

I am at a loss and know this feeling because I have lost a dog while I was away in Marine Corps boot camp. My wife has never been in this position other than a betta fish she had as a child. Mia is her very first kitten.

We have the funds for treatment. I am primarily concerned for Mia. She is the kitten that taught me to love cats and the partner that carried my wife through several deployments. As mentioned, I am just so scared that we will drag her through so much agony.

Sorry for any typos, I am a little emotional.

I'm so sorry to hear this.  Can I ask what the vet is recommending?  If you were to amputate, would that buy her time?  It does sound like you are catching this early.

We're going to speak to the vet tomorrow. Our vet said she would like to do a bigger biopsy to confirm the fine needle aspiration before she refers us to a pet oncologist. Our vet seems pretty certain that amputation and chemo would be the only route. I think the oncologist will have a more accurate prognosis per our options. I will let you all know as soon as I know whats going on.
