Anyone know of an easy-to-clean water fountain?

I searched but didn't see anything in the other threads, and I want a water fountain for mine badly because I don't think he gets enough water.  I have one who is a big dry eater that will go passive-aggressive and refuse to eat altogether if he doesn't have some dry.  I give him wet just like my other cat but he will flat out let it sit there and dry up after about 3 bites, so I need more water in him.

My problem---both my cats backwash horribly!  I swear they use their water dishes as mouthwash stations.  I fell in love with the pagoda-style one I saw, but it looked like a nightmare to clean.

Anybody know of one that would be easy to clean (and sanitize) on a daily basis?  My old cat spits his wet food in his water, and my tubby baby spits his dry in it.  I'm a big believer in constantly clean bowls--they currently use ceramic that go through the dishwasher daily, they have their own set of dishes.  I don't want to spend a lot on a fountain that recirculates cat spit.  I know they filter, but still, yuck.

Some fountains are a pain to clean. This one is actually really easy to clean, my only issue with it is that it's pretty small so i have to refill it really often, and the carbon filters are weird and clog up easily so i don't use those at all, but I only use filtered water in my fountains.

I tried a lot of fountains and finally gave in and bought two from Thirsty Cat Fountains, which are amazing and super easy to clean. They are pricey, but IMO worth it. I have 10 cats and a dog and don't have any issues cleaning it once a week. No matter what you'll need to clean the entire fountain at least once a week. My dog is the one that slobbers tho, way more than all the cats combined.

Now another question (I think I'm going to go with the Drinkwell Pagoda).....how do you clean it?  Do you just unplug and dump, wash over the sink?  Or just wipe it out and refill?

I love the Thirstycat ones, those are beautiful!!  Just a bit pricey for me right now.

The fountain comes with an instruction manual that details how to take it apart.  You take the tower out first, pour the water out of the bowl, disassemble the pump, and then wash each individual piece.  The carbon filter needs to be replaced every 2 weeks, and the foam filter once a month.

This one does indeed seem easy to clean!  I considered it when shopping for a fountain, but the fact that it is made out of plastic was a deal breaker since one of our kitties has mild chin acne.

Well, I ordered the red Pagoda!  There were a couple more YouTube videos I found on it and I really liked how it broke down to clean.  I did go look at the flower one, I loved it too!  I may have to get one of those too.  I want mine to get used to this one first though, one of mine is a big scaredy-puss (literally) and it may take him a while to warm up to the running water.  He freaks at water just dripping out of the faucet.  And heavens forbid, if I accidentally splash a drop of water on him at the kitchen sink he acts like it is acid burning him

I too have been shopping around for a fountain. My concern is where do you put it? If they start sticking their paws in it, won't water get everywhere?

I haven't had a problem with that, but mine aren't "dippers"!  I do like it though, but I haven't noticed yet an increase in their water intake since I got it.  One still goes to the bedroom to drink out of his water bowl there, so it's not the big novelty to them I thought it might be.  But I think it's rather pretty!

It might be a mess with a "dipper" though...but I guess no more than a regular bowl.

One of my cats is really bad, she'll run at the bowl & then of course it spills everywhere. She'll grab things & then deposit them into the water bowl, she bats at the bowl with her paws. I typically put some water into their meals to make "gravy" but one of my other cats trys to open the toilet lids & I think she's trying to get at the water. Then, I just remembered, my last cat, when I brush my teeth or something, she lover to stick her head under the trickle & play in it as well.

I guess all I can do is get one & see what happens. There's a lot of wood flooring in this place so I guess I'll have to put it on carpet.

Oh wow!  Well, one plus about the one I got is that it's kinda heavy, so at least she wouldn't send it flying across the floor if she slid into it.

Mine just backwash, and spit food into theirs.....and spit...ewwww

If they backwash or spit food into it, doesn't the pump recirculate so now everyone drinks it? In a stagnant fountain, the food would just sink. Have you noticed, does the bottom of the fountain get moved around?

No, really so far it just kind of either sinks to the bottom (wet food) or floats (the dry food).  I am having to clean it daily, but I had to give them a fresh bowl daily too, so, not really different.  I really keep an eye out to clean things out.

No, nothing has moved, but mine aren't energetic either....just spitters.  They never even move their food bowls.
