My cat has been experiencing urinary blockage. Took him to a new vet today after an overall disappointing experience with the last one.

I'd like to know if it's common practice to leave a urinary catheter without a collection system in place? I've already read it can be cause for bacterial infection.

Also, why wouldn't they keep him overnight?

The fact he's basically peeing everywhere has little significance compared to the sensation that something isn't being done correctly. Any thoughts?

Im so sorry no one answered any of our questions.  How's he doing at this point?  Is the catheter still in?

I've never (luckily) had a cat that needed this done, but did find this thread that indicates that it is NOT normal to even send a cat home with a catheter still in him.  Usually they aren't released until they are able to urinate on their own.

Hopefully your little guy is feeling better and has had that thing removed by now.
