I have a 6 week old kitten whose mommy just ran out of the door. The lady who was left with the kittens has given all 8 away. I give her soft kitten food. But should I get formula for her and mix it with her food???? By the way I hand feed her every day. What should I do?

Kitten formula mixed with the wet food makes it easier for the kitten to eat. The kitten may also want to lap some formula from a dish. Powdered PetAg KMR is recommended.

The kitten, at 6 weeks old, should be able to eat from a dish or plate now. You'll want to feed the kitten small wet-food meals 4-6 times a day, and leave dry kitten chow and water down 24/7.

Did you set up a small, kitten-sized litter box? The kitten needs one now.

The lady's cat left because it is in heat. Unless she has it spayed, it will have another litter of kittens in about 2 months.

You will want to get your kitten neutered or spayed before it is 6 months old to avoid mating problems.

Thank you for giving it a home! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thus far she has been taking a combination of all three. She has nibbled the dry food. She ate the moist food a little better. I also bought kitten milk. Which she took from a teaspoon. But she drank two teaspoons twice last night. Then she only wanted about one teaspoon. Before she was ready to go to sleep. I noticed she became a little more active. With the increase in feedings.

That's excellent! Keep up the frequent feedings. Was it treat milk, or formula? Will she lap it from a dish?

I have kitten formula for now. She hasn't lapped any yet. She is still a Lil confused about. Things that look like nipples. But when I give her moist food. She eats it off of my finger.

These are good tricks, to entice eating from your fingers.

Goats milk is another alternative to use as alternative to kmr.  OR instead to the treats kitten milk....

Minced meat is often used in Sweden for such kittens.  But not raw pork!

Ok so far she is eating sporadically. But I have noticed she has become more active. Playing and nuzzling. She also likes a long nap after she eats. Is that to be expected?

Chelsea is also having a decent bowl movement. Nothing dry or runny coming out of her. I also set up a small litter box. Small enough for her to hop out of.

Naps are common after kittens eat. Kittens nap a lot anyway! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Continue to offer wet food and kitten formula to her at regular intervals.
