What kind of worms are these. She's a 9-12week old kitten, I rescued her from a shelter. On her records she's already dewormed but I think she has worms again. I gave her some roundworm medicine, it's Sentry Sure Shot. Is it effective? I'm not sure if it's roundworms or tapeworms, will she be sick if she has tapeworms and I gave her the wrong wormer? She hasn't thrown up yet, doesn't seem lethargic but I'm not sure since cats sleep a lot.

Does anyone know a wormer that covers at least most worms and is also cost efficient? Thanks.

They look like pin worms. A very bad infestation as well. I think your beyond the point of otc wormers. Shes gonna need a high dose of prescription wormer from your vet. Maybe several doses. Your whole family is probably in the early stages of infection as well. Pin worms love the human colon and anus. They spead quite easily too and can survive for up to two weeks on surfaces as well. Your gonna need to go to your doctor and get some meds yourself. Unfortunatly worms happen, one out of six people are walking around with worms. Its great that you took this kitten in and are giving her a loving home. Hopefully you can get this cleared up in a few weeks and have a funny story to tell on holidays.

Would Diatomaceous Earth work. Some people have used it to get rid of pinworms in humans and pets. Do you think I should use that or take her to go to the vet. I'd rather spend 10-20 dollars on the earth than go to the vet, because vets often try to squeeze money out of you and I don't want unessasary payments. What do you think?

I dont think thats going to help. You could end up trying several ways to get rid of them and end up having to go to the vet anyways .. She should be due for her second set of shots soon, maybe you could take some of the worms in a baggie with you and turn down any additional parasite testing to save some. You can see if the shelter will help also. They really should of gotten that under control before adopting her out to you.

It's going to be another month or so for her next shots. I think I'm going to take her to the vet. How much do you think a checkup like this would cost?

Kittens can't die from worms, right? I heard about anemia, but that's only in hookworms, is it? Thanks for the help!

No your right, not pinworms then. They dont really look segmented like tapeworms but there so tiny its hard to tell. Do you see any egg sacks in there as well. Probably around 60 to 100 with wormer if you dont have a fecal smear done. It varies vet to vet. Call up the shelter first and ask them when they wormed her and how long it takes to work. Do you think its possible that those worms are actually dead worms being expelled from the first worming?

She has had worms in her poop since just yesterday. The first time I saw her poop with the worms, whitish transparent worms were slowly moving, I'm not sure if they were dead or not. Tonight I didn't pay much attention I saw worms so I threw all the litter our. I'll look next time. I gave her more otc roundworm wormer today like yesterday, but it doesn't seem to have an effect because it probably isn't roundworms.

Tapeworm segments.

Common but does require praziquantel med to get rid of them.

You know tapeworm when they are squirmy on her poop, but 15 minutes later are dried, tan colored and look like a sesame seed.

Do you recommend Drontal, and does it require a prescription?

Yes I do, drontal covers all.

It's what I use for my cat rescue group.

I use pyrantel (no prescrip) for roundworms, which they should be given maybe twice a year if they go outside, but initially given, then given again in 2 weeks.

Drontal is from a vet, but 1, shelter might give it to you, and 2, if not and can't afford a vet visit go to Petco and get Tape Worm tabs. They work for tapeworms also.

Not cheap though.

Should sanitize my bed cover or wash it. I did not get the medicine yet, since my mom's friend will be coming over on the 20th and she has a wormer. I'm not sure what the brand is or the name of it. Does tapeworm kill cats or kittens?

I would highly suggest taking her in to your vet with a fresh fecal sample (as fresh as you can get it). She may have more than one type of parasite in her intestines and you cannot tell with your naked eye. Many parasites look alike to the naked eye but once you get them under a microscope you can identify specific eggs/segments. You may end up doing more harm than good randomly treating her like that. I know it isn't what you want to hear, you want a quick and easy fix but for the health and well being of your cat, I suggest you get her a fecal analysis.

She's fine now. There are no more worms. I don't know where I got the dewormer, it is albenzoale tablets(not sure about spelling). I also gave her some diameteous earth.
