Well I'm hoping someone can help me. This site was VERY helpful lasted year when we had to deal with hepatic lipidosis. (Sadly we lost Squeaky)

This year Squeak's 16 year mom Mama had to have I131 injection last Wednesday. She was in quarantine for 48 hrs and home. She's sleeping about 12-13 hrs a overnight, and we've noticed a significant decrease in her free feed dry food consumption. Now She just picks at her wet food. Wet food we are trying are blue buffalo healthy gourmet, pro plan savour ( she ate up prior to injection). She did eat up one whole boiled shrimp.

Any ideas on how to entice her to eat more? Her urine output is good. But her poops are small about the 1/2 inch long and skinnier than a pencil and dry. Not her normal movements post injection. She's going to vet tomorrow but would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks. toni

Try some freeze dried treats like Whole life. meaty baby food, tuna or tuna juice, cooked chicken, Tikicat or weruva are good options as well. It does take time for cats to feel better after i-131 treatment. My Fluff had it about 3 months ago and it took awhile for everything to settle.

Hi there! Mama is now a eating up freshly boiled, wild caught shrimp& purina One Tender Selects Blend.
I131 is radioactive isotope injection to stop hyperthyroid, we were giving her meds transdermal, but it wasn't helping to control it and she couldn't handle the increasing of meds. So fingers crossed we hope it works. A small percentage do develop hypothyroid. So again fingers crossed. We will know in about 2 weeks If her thyroid numbers are back to normal.

Ahh.  I wondered if that was what it was for.  something in the back of my head was saying "thyroid".

Hopefully this works, but I thought the cats went away for about a month for these injections and were kept in isolation somewhere.  Maybe that's just if there are more than one cat in the home?  I heard you have to handle their litter and whatnot with extreme precaution
