Hi all!

We're pretty new and still learning all the "ropes & sticky threads" of the web site, but we're glad to have found so many cat friends
We started looking at this a few months ago when our beautiful baby Matthew was feeling poorly and we were needing some support. We've since lost him, but were so glad to have had him for the 16 1/2 years we did! We have Abbey (who's 7) and Casey (15 months) now and just want to say a big Thank You! to everyone who has helped us through the last few months, whether they know it or not. We often feel that Matthew is still with us because I'm SURE I heard him meowing this morning (it must have been Abbey although their meows are very differant) and I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. Anyway, thanks to everyone for letting us be part of your group and how lucky we are to share the love of these wonderful furry babies.

Thanks for making us feel welcome. We've had many cats over the years (and just about everything else that has fur, feathers or fins!) and it's always nice to know what someone else has had the same problems or concerns. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences and stories. It's always nice to hear what someone else has to say and to get advice on so many things. You guys are great - appreciate it!

Welcome to TCS.  I'm glad we've been able to help you when you were just "lurking"; now that you've actually joined we'll be happy to be more actively helpful, and very glad to have your help on our problems.

Yes, I've had that experience.  Generally it's when I'm half asleep, which means it's probably a dream.  Also, you're right.  It's extremely easy to mistake the meow of one cat for that of another.  And I sometimes have problems knowing whether it's Jasmine or the television, and have a similar problem with phones ringing on the television.

You may want to start a thread for Matthew in the Crossing the Bridge forum; many members do this and find that it helps them to deal with the loss.  And you're welcome to come to us when you want a shoulder (or several shoulders) to cry on about your loss; we have a clue about how painful it is.

Please accept our condolences.

My first thought would have been a dream too, only I was wide awake and on my feet at the time. It's happened a few times now, not just with me but my husband as well, so maybe Abbey has picked up Matthew's sound. I think he just visits every so often and let's us know he's still here even though we can't see him. Either way, we're happy to have that little reminder of him. He was definitely "our boy" and a sweeter, more loving cat you could never find. Thanks for the welcome - we may start something for Matty on the Bridge page.

I'm sorry about your fur-baby [emoji]128546[/emoji]

But to anwer your question, after my first cat died, a couple nights, I woke up to the feeling of a cat "kneading" on me like he used to (and we had no other cats at the time). I figure it could have just been me, as I am known to sleep walk, talk in my sleep and I sometimes get sleep paralysis. So it could have been that I was not 100% alert when I thought I felt him kneading on me.

We loved our Matthew so much and he came with us from Minneapolis to England 9 years ago, as well as our other cat Holly. We had to put Holly to sleep a few years later and I'm sure she paid us a few visits too. She and Matthew were quite close and one day in particular  Matthew just stood stock still and stared at Holly's favorite place to sleep like he was seeing her. There was an actual physical change that came over him (hard to explain) and both my husband and I saw it. We couldn't see anything but we're certain he did, then a few minutes later he went back to normal. I know a lot of people scoff at things like that but we've just had too many similar experiences that have happened over the years. Interesting that you mentioned feeling your cat kneeding on you - when I was little I used to feel a cat jump up on my bed and kneed right behind me quite often (and I wasn't asleep either). We didn't have any cats at the time but it used to happen a lot. Maybe that rainbow bridge is closer than we think
