I am still surprised by thr fact that, in the suburbs, I am awakened by fighting cats in the middle of thrbnight. Last year, my neighbors called the fire department for kittens in their tree. There has been an orange cat roaming my neighborhood for about two years. Tonight, I was awakened by the sound of meowing and fighting. It looked like the orange cat was fighting off another cat at around 2am. I think there may be kittens again and she was defensing them. I will be calling animal control when they open. Thr fact that there are at least two stray cats that continue to procreate, and I'm the only neighbor who cares, is appalling. I attempted to trap this cat before but was unsuccessful. I hadn't seen it in a while. I hope this gets rectified because my walls are rthin and it sounds like it's right outside my window.

I hope that by calling animal control that they don't euthanize the cats.  Have you spoken to your neighbors?  It sounds like some definite TNR needs to be done if there are kittens being born.

How did you go about trying to trap them?  Usually really stinky food will attract a cat.  Yet if they are owned and not hungry then that could be a reason.  Trapping can take perseverance.

I hope you are able to help the cats.  Maybe your animal control will neuter them and charge the owners.

I have not called animal control because I'm afraid the cat will be euthanized. However, my neighbors are on vacation and I'm not sure what to do. If there are kittens, the mother needs food and protection.  I hears a lot of fighting with another cat last night and I'm worried about the cats-all of them.

What can/should I do to help, at this point?

If it were me and my neighbors were on vacation and left their cats out, I would try to trap them and get them neutered.  How irresponsible.  As I am sure you know, the fighting will not stop until they are neutered.  The will fight with each other and seek out females.  They are also known to kill kittens.

Is there a rescue group you could call in your area?  You could just say they are strays.  If there are kittens, they will just grow up to wander too and keep producing more and more.  I would either start to trap them and get them to a shelter or enlist the help of a rescue group.

I feel your pain.  I have had so many cats just left by irresponsible owners.  All have been unneutered males.  While still intact they would fight and spray.  I now I have neutered 7 and the situation is very peaceful.  Some cats have stuck around that I care for while a few others have moved on.  Yet they are neutered!

I hope you can find a solution.

The neighbors whose house at which the fight occurred, don't own the cats. They just seem to end up there, at night for some reason. When they got home today, we all walked the property and didn't find kittens but did find a LOT of cat hair on the lawn from a fight. I talked to a rescue group but they're not in my immediate area. I have to try to find a TNR group closer to me. I hope I can find a way to help these cats. I'm afraid they injured last night. at this point, whether they're strays or not, they have to be fixed.
