My cat, Dacey, is 16 years old. She was finally diagnosed with kidney disease about 2 years ago. She has been pretty stable since her diagnosis, only had one bad instance a year ago where she was vomiting and unable to hold food or water down. The vet said that for whatever reason her stomach wasn't movingthe food through her system to digest it so she was put on a shot for about a week to get her stomach moving (after iv fluids and an overnight vet stay) and she perked back up and had been doing well since. Very few instances of vomiting, usually just when she becomes constipated which isn't often and hasn't happened in a while. She was on pepcid for a few months but I found that she did better off it than on it. She was vomiting more frequently on it and just wasn't feeling well, so I only give it to her now when she shows signs of an upset stomach. Recently she has gone down hill though her bloodwork isn't that bad. She is eating less, or going through fits of not eating at all. Last week, she went 3 days without eating, and the first 2 days she would immediately vomit when she did try to eat and despite drinking a lot was only peeing once in 24 hrs for a few days. I gave her cerenia which has helped in the past but she never perked up and began eating. The vet gave her an injection of cerenia and subq fluids after bloodwork and sent her home (Tuesday) and I gave her an appetite stimulant that evening and she began eating again, though not much and still didn't seem to feel well. She stopped eating again Friday (would only take a bite or two of food after begging for it then walk away) and last night she began vomiting water in the middle of the night. I gave her the last cerenia pill I had and a few hours later another appetite stimulant. She is now eating little bits again but gets nauseous shortly after eating and drinks a lot. She hasn't thrown up again but it's obvious she doesn't feel well. She also seems hesitant to pee, she'll walk into the litter box and stand half in it and just wait then walk out to do the same thing a few minutes later. She has peed 2 small amounts today which is not normal for her. She urinates a lot usually. She just doesn't seem to have bounced back like she has in the past when she has a day or two of not feeling well (it's never lasted this long). This is my first experience with kidney disease I'm not sure what to do to help her. I also realize because of her age that it will eventually come time to let her go but I'm not sure when the cutoff is for that; I don't want to make that decision too soon but I also don't want her to be miserable and in pain for a few more weeks of months for my benefit. All my previous pets have gone quickly and it was obvious there was nothing to be done and the vet stated it would only be a day or two. Funds are very limited so treatments are limited, especially since my dog has addison's disease and requires a lot of meds and care as well. The vet hasn't mentioned any treatments per say other than changing her food (she will not eat the wet KD food) and giving her the cerenia for nauseua and the appetite stimulant when needed. I'm always hesitant to give her the appetite stim because she doesn't react well to it. Gets restless, meows a lot for no reason, her mood is just different, and sometimes it causes her to vomit. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated. I've looked at a lot of websites about feline kidney disease but since Dacey doesn't have any other issues (diabetes, thyroid issues, etc) it seems she's an unusual case.

My first kitty was diagnosed and passed away from kidney disease at 10 years old. I am so sorry you are going through this with your baby. We fed peaches (my kitty) meat baby food at the end because that was all she would eat. We knew her time was limited so we figured if we could get her to eat anything that was a plus. Maybe your kitty would respond well to baby food also.

I don't remember her using the litter box being an issue but kidney disease does lead to lots of dehydration (which is why these kitties tend to drink water so frequently). It's possible that is preventing your cat from wanting to use the litter box. The caution I would make here is that it can be pretty serious if a kitty is not able to pee at all.

It's a pretty personal decision of when it is time to let our furry friends go. I won't even try to advise you on what to do here but I will tell you we ultimately decided to put our peaches down when she stopped moving around and being herself. Eventually the bad days far outweighed her good ones.

Sending lots of positive vibes your way[emoji]128571[/emoji]

I too have had two, no three kidney disease kitties. I wonder if she's had recent blood work, and if so, the results?
ALSO, dehydration: get your vet to teach you how to give sub-q fluids at home. It's very easy to do and better than dehydration.
If you need any tips, tricks on how to do this easily; Id be glad to help.
I also agree with the baby food. Have had to do that with two of our kidney patients. Sadly, her age may simply be a factor and I know you love her and want to do everything you can to make her feel better, but sometimes they just can't bounce back. I'm praying for you both as I know how much she means to you. OH, & definitely, in my experience; anytime a cat changes litter habits; u know something is going on. Current bloodwork?
U R both in my thoughts and prayers. I hope this helps.

Here are the results from last week. The vet stated that her crea was slowly rising but her bun wasn't elevated like she was expecting based on how she was feeling. I will be calling her first thing in the morning to see about fluids and getting more cerenia.
Alb 3.3
Alb/glob .8
Alkp 59
Alt 45
Bun/crea 12
Bun/urea 33
Crea 2.7
Glob 4.0
Glu 110
Osm calc 322
TP 7.3

The last bloodwork she had done was late December and here are those results. I don't have any of her bloodwork beyond this.

Alb 3.4
Alb/glob .8
Alkp 69
Alt 196
Bun/crea 11
Bun/urea 36
Crea 3.2
Glob 4.2
Glu 149
Osm calc 331
TP 7.6

She is eating small amounts of critical care canned food at a time now and hasn't vomited at all since this morning and has peed twice now. I also put some of her favorite wet food (she loves duck) down for her and she ate a smidge but has been sticking to the critical care food the vet gave me. I will get some all meat baby food tomorrow and see if she'll eat that.

Am glad to hear she's eating some and peeing. Push the fluids. I assume if bloodwork was done, last week, they found no infection. (I'm not a vet, know about crea/ urea and a couple other things from the results you posted) am assuming since you didn't mention it that there is no infection which is good. At this point, it's great she's eating some, and wet food especially. But if she's not fond of water, I'd still try for the fluids at home.
