Our boy Tibby is suffering with his skin at the moment. He is two years old, was neutered at a yer old and has sever asthma due to lung damage from Cat Flue as a kitten. Luckily it doesn't stop him having a full life. He's just very wheezy.

About 4 weeks ago we noticed what we thought was a skin scrape on his tail, like he'd had it stuck somewhere and pulled the furr off. It was weeping a little so we bathed it and treated it with iodine solution. When it was on it's way to healing we left it alone. We noticed about 4 days later he had another patch appear furthur down his tale. It was not there before we checked his entire tail.

We then assumed he must have be fighting with one of our other cats. We have one boy who is quite grumpy with other cats. We've kept our eye out for fighting. And treated the second patch. It was just about healed when it broke out again on the top of his tail where it meets the spine. We treated it again and it keeps on breaking out up and down the tail. It heals then breaks out again.

Last week we though we had it on the run, but then noticed on Friday that he had a massive patch on his chest and yesterday one started on the side o of his neck. The patches didn't start out as round.

We also noticed that appears to be a hard lump under the patch on his tail. At first we thought he had something like a splinter in there. There is nothing on his belly or legs yet and he appears to be healthy in every other way. No scratching or overgrooming that we have seen.

He is due a flea treatment and we have a lot of ticks in our area. I check him every few days and often find at least one lurking. I'm suspicious that it may be an allergic reaction to a tick as I found one on him yesterday and where I removed it there is another patch. That one is different from the others though.

The others were first noticed as weeping, what we thought were fresh wounds. I don't dare use a spot on worm/flea/tick treatment due to all the broken skin.

We will be taking him to the vest asap (in the next few days). Was just wondering if anyone knew what it might be and if there is anything we can do to help him in the meantime. We have been cleaning the areas with warm water and using an iodine solution.

Any other suggestions would be greatly welcome. I don't want it getting any worse. The patch on his chest is now about 6 x 7 cm. All of the areas are weeping, but scab over, but we have to keep softening off the scabs as they are fairly yellow looking and what we doing just dosen't seem to be helping.

Have added a few pictures of the bigger patches. It's far worse that it looks in the pictures.

Side of neck below ear (base of ear is near thumb in picture)

Base of tail, the lump is under the place where it is most red - there are other patches along his tail at various stages of healing.

I am glad your kitty is going to the vet.  Usually skin issues are either some type of allergy or a fungal infection.  Is there any chance that there could be fleas on your kitty, it can even happen with an indoor kitty.  We can bring them in.  They don't attach to us but will attach to our pets.  I have seen a kitty with a flea allergy get like this even when there were so few that a flea was never found on the kitty.   I know you said you use a spot on treatment but there have been some issues recently with fleas developing an immunity to some of them.
