Special food and medication while I'm away

So, Neymar's liver values were quite off on his last blood panel, and I was given some "natural" medication for him and some special food.

First of all, he can't eat 3h before taking the medication, and 3 hours after. Second of all, Elza is not allowed to eat that food. Also, he won't take that medication, it has to be pushed down his throat. (He even rejects pill pocket after he was fooled once). And since he becomes agitated and quite violent when handled by other people, I don't see who else can care for him in that regard.

At first, I agreed to all of that, but I just realized this will be a problem:

I'll have two overnight stays this month for work, in another city and no one to watch the kids and make sure they eat what they should.

What do I do? Should I skip the food and the medication on those two occasions? Anything else?

I thought about putting them in two different rooms with their respective foods and a litterbox, but they are so co-dependant that I'm afraid something bad might happen. And bengals feel lonely really fast.

And Neymar is fully capable of opening our doors (we have no locks inside).

I'm sorry to hear that Neymar isn't so good at the moment :( Dealing with medicating difficult cats is always a tricky issue when it comes to trips.

First of all, I suggest you speak to your vet about this for advice. To my mind, the liver isn't something you want to take chances with without veterinary guidance, and some medications can cause significant problems if a day is skipped. The vet may have suggestions for you, and they can tell you if it's safe to skip meds and special diet for a day or not. An ideal solution would be for a vet tech to cat sit for you - they're very well practiced in handling difficult/reluctant cats and in giving meds, and they may well succeed where a 'regular' cat sitter would fail.

I don't think separating the two cats during the trip is a good idea - for exactly the reasons you give in your post. Additionally, the last thing you want to do is stress Neymar out if you can possibly help it, and your being away is quite stressful enough without compounding the issue by forcibly separating two bonded cats.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. I really hope you're able to find an appropriate solution soon :vibes:
