It has been a little over a week since I switched my cats over to wet food only. But lately I noticed that they have been throwing up and gagging when I give them wet food. However, when they get dry food, there is no gagging or vomiting at all. I remember reading something about switching up proteins but I don't understand what that means. There is no change in temperament, activity levels, weight, etc. The only symptom is vomiting after eating wet food only so I'm afraid it might be something in the wet food. The flavours provided at my grocery store are limited so I only have about 4 to choose from and they've all eaten all 4 flavour already so I have a hard time mixing it up. I'm getting really frustrated because I don't want them on bag food again. They were doing so well on the wet food and then this.

What is going on?

Forgot to add:  Felix and Smokey have also been doing well on raw food for a while but I recently stopped giving it to them. Could this have contributed to the vomiting?

Below is what I am feeding them and 3 other flavours:

The most likely reason for the vomiting (assuming they're both well in themselves) is that there's something in the wet food that disagrees with them - either one of the ingredients, or a bad batch.

However, if they're showing other signs of being unwell, or the vomiting continues once you stop feeding the wet food, then I'd be wanting to get them checked out by a vet to be sure they aren't sick.

I would definitely suggest that you stop giving the wet food for a day or two, as this will help you determine whether it's the wet food that's causing the problem.

Have you looked into ordering cat food online? It's a great option for getting access to a wider variety of foods, and often works out cheaper too ;)

I don't think switching from raw to wet would cause vomiting, but if you did a rapid changeover it is possible that they're struggling to adjust.

That's what I thought, thank you. Bag food last night and today and no gagging that I have seen. Also no vomiting anymore. I still plan on taking them to the vet. I was going to make an appointment today but they're closed unfortunately.

Do you have any brand suggestions?

I'm in the UK, so really don't know a lot about US brands. These may give you some ideas :) [article="33149"][/article][article="31144"][/article][thread="307130"][/thread][thread="311139"][/thread]

It might be that their systems are still adjusting after switching over from raw food. That's quite different, and I imagine that your cats' digestive systems will take a little while to get used to just the wet food.

As per PC brand, I buy that too as part of the cheaper foods in my rotation. My cats both like it, and it seems OK to me quality-wise for a cheaper food. I'm on a budget so I have to include the cheaper brands to offset the higher end ones. I also buy Fancy Feast at the supermarket. I'm assuming you're in Canada if you're buying PC? The Real Canadian Superstore has a permanent multibuy deal if you buy 10 it's 60c per can.

Why would you go from feeding raw that they were doing well on to wet food? Raw is far superior to wet food. I don't know anything about that brand but the ingredients looks low quality to me. I wouldn't feed anything from the grocery stores except for fancy feast classic chicken and I would not feed that exclusively. Stay away form all seafood flavors. I would switch back tor raw if you can.

I wasn't feeding them pure raw, it was mixed with the wet food. I'm still introducing it to them and I wanted to take it slow. And I know raw is better, that's why I'm trying to get them off of the dry and wet food. I've never had any problem with PC before so I figured it was okay to give it to them. Where else am I suppose to get food if not the grocery store? I live in Canada and I couldn't find any decent options online. The grocery store is more convenient. PC does have a canned food that doesn't have any by-products and stuff but I couldn't find it online or in the grocery store.

I may be crazy, but what I did worked for my cat. When switching from dry food to wet food it was a tough switch for my cat. He would vomit not shortly after eating it. So, when preparing the wet food, I made a small layer of dry food above the wet food. Since the dry food wasn't enough to satisfy his hunger, he would just eat through to the wet food and continue on. Day after day I lessened the amount of dry food mixed in until finally, he was just eating wet food. I hope this is helpful and apologize if it isn't.

Thank you but I've switched up the brands of wet food I am giving them. There hasn't been any vomiting so far so I'm assuming all is well. And I've also reintroduced raw meat.
