She was hit by a train after she jumped down onto the tracks, which are around 5 feet below the platform level. She was in her mid-20's.
As unfortunate as this was, although incredibly stupid of her, the article mentioned another more remarkable mishap which had occurred earlier in the year on one of the NY commuter railways. A man who was in the train's toilet compartment dropped his cell phone into the 'facilities', and stuck his hand down the hole trying to find the phone. Those toilets have a metal hatch at the bottom which opens when they are flushed; the hatch tried to close itself on the guy's arm, trapping it in the toilet bowl. They had to call in a rescue team with the so-called 'jaws of life' to cut him out of the toilet.
Between the potent chemicals used to flush those types of toilets, and the various 'remains of the day', the thought of someone wanting to put a cellphone by their face after such an adventure is unbelievable.I'm hoping that he had inebriation as an excuse (those lines have 'bar cars' on some trains during evening rush hour.)
