Hey all!
This is my first post here and I'm reaching out to you because I'm desperately trying to figure out what to do. I have 3 cats, a 1 year old, 2 year old, and an almost 9 year old. They're all in good health and have been doing well. For the last year they've been on Science diet wet food and never had any problems and don't eat dry at all. Financially we ran into a bit of a problem and had to switch their food to something more affordable. Here in MA we pay about $1.75 a can. So we switched this week to friskies and everything seemed fine until the last two nights. We noticed that someone had gotten sick a few times and eventually figured out it was our 2 year old. Then she stopped eating all the new food and only about half of it.. And as I stayed up late with her I realized she was going in and out of the litter without actually doing anything. So I freaked out a little and said we needed to call the vet.
Our vet said that to see her it was going to cost $75 just to go in and then however much for what we needed to fix her. Due to financially struggling, we were hoping it was something we could fix ourselves. The only thing I could I think would be doing this was the new food so we should just try to put her back on the old food.
Last night she ate most of the old brand and used the bathroom twice. We were so excited that she was finally going. It was diarrhea but I read that could be normal for switching foods. She's been eating treats and seemed to be feeling well again.
We switched them all back and they seem to be happy with this. Except our 2 year old refused to eat a lot of her food tonight. We gave her a can and she drank the liquid and ate some of the chunks but it's still almost full. We even opened another can (one chicken and one fish) to give her options. She ate a little of both and then stopped. She seems hungry and interested in the bowls but doesn't want that food. I tried to tempt her with a little parmasean Over it and got no where.
She will eat treats and seems to be fine. No pain anywhere that we touch and she's using the bathroom. She's playing and very lovin still. But just not really eating. I've read so many horrible things about what can happen and I'm just hoping this is a normal reaction after switching to food that made her sick and switching back. Or maybe something we could try to get her back on track.
Obv we will take her to the vet if need be but it's a real strain on our current income so any help would be great! Thank you and sorry it was so long
