I started a thread 3 weeks ago about my earth angel HARRY. I put him to sleep last Fri so he wouldn't suffer. Now I have the situation of comforting his buddy GRACIE. I know she misses him. I read lots of different sites about how to handle the loss with another animal in the house. Wow, thank goodness for the advise or I know many mistakes would have been made. I have comfort knowing he had a wonderful life and I wouldn't let him stay here cause I had a problem of letting go. It was the right decision and this gives me some peace. In a few weeks I will adopt another cat from Human society/ I have always adopted a cat a few years old, because they need homes most and I think this is best for my Gracie. I have lots of problems posting pics cause I'm not the best computer person, but I will try my best when we welcome the new member into our love filled home. This site had been so helpful through all this- very grateful and everyone have a blessed day.

I'm so sorry about little Harry, but so glad that you know you made the right decision for him and that you seem to be at peace.  It is a lot to go through for both you and Gracie.  @Denice  gave you a very good link.  One thing that I would do as soon as possible, since she too is grieving, is begin giving Gracie some Rescue Remedy Pet.  My vet carries it and I also buy mine online.  It' has a great calming effect on my animals.  I have used it during vet visits, thunderstorms, introducing a new cat to the household, and for a grieving only cat left behind when her buddy's life was over.  It works very well to calm and de-stress my babies.  You can put it in the water bowl as well as giving her the little bit of oral drops.  I also want to say that I am the same as far as wanting to give a home to a cat rather than a kitten.  They are seldom adopted and they so deserve to be.  I  have only one I got as a kitten.  All of the others were older and they make the most wonderful little family.  All happy, healthy and very glad to have a forever home.  Hugs!

This is what I use, it's alcohol-free.  This is a good seller who ships quickly and it's a great price.  This is the small (10 ml) bottle so you can see if it works for Gracie.  If so, it's also sold in 20 ml. bottles:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bach-Pet-Re...443578?hash=item41a96e2a7a:g:hzQAAOSwEANXHHYH

The box will tell you how much to dose Gracie with and how much to add to her water.  You have a great night too!

I am so sorry about the loss of your sweet Harry. I hope you & Gracie can find the right kitty to add to your home. No new cat will ever replace one we've loved & lost, but I agree that many times having a new cat in the house can help the surviving kitty to get through their grief.

Thank u for ur beautiful heartfelt words. Yes, I adopted a cat and hes moving in next week when I have the money to get all the shots, tests, and flee bath at my vet. A good Samaritan rescued a mom and her 3 kits- I male and 2 females. A rescue center set them up with a great foster family very temporary. The mom cat keeps pushing him away, and his sisters are always trying to fight him and hes a lover not a fighter so he runs away and hide. Hes a year and 2 months old. I know gracie will love having a buddy and my heart is open to give this angel a loving, safe, forever home. I will post a pic once he arrives. very excited to welcome him after the rough time in life hes had thus far. thanks so much again. warmest blessings- lisa

Hi, sweetie.  I am so happy for you, Gracie and your soon-to-be new addition to the family.  He is such a blessed little boy to have someone like you rescuing him.  I know Harry is so proud of you.  Yes, Harry was one of a kind.  They are all such complete little individuals.  No other cat could ever take Harry's place, but this little boy will now have his own place in your heart.  Hearing the story of your new little boy reminded me of my little tortie Rena.  I posted her story earlier on this thread: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/321198/2-y-o-orange-male-cat-with-fiv-and-heart-condition#post_4034066   These are the lucky ones, the ones that finally end up in their forever home, after very rough starts, to be loved and cared for the rest of their days.  Loving cats is so hard sometimes, because you cannot save all of them and there comes a time when we have to let a much-loved baby go, but it's more than worth it.  I read this post of yours and I can feel the love.  That's one lucky little boy!  I can't wait to see his pics.
