Hey everyone! I'm new to any and everything involving cats. I'll admit I never had much interest in cats, it was rare that I was around one, and when I did see one, they either seemed really boring, or like they were plotting on world domination.

So anyway, it all started when one evening I put some leftovers outside because I didn't want to throw them away. And pretty soon I had two cats showing up everyday. A mostly black male with white feet and spots I named Ozzie, and a multi-colored female (Tortie?) that I named Bella. Well it wasn't long before Bella stole my heart. I thought they were all feral, but within a month, Bella went from acting feral to running towards me when I walked outside, getting and staying close while I went from standing to sitting, and most recently, asking for pets and rubbing her body against my hand.

Well I feel like she made progress pretty quickly and it's getting pretty hot outside so I bought a pet carrier, put a can with little food inside, and after a day of letting her get used to the carrier she walked right in. I zipped it up and brought her inside just a few hours ago. Right now she's in my back bathroom, it's completely cleaned out, I put a cat bed in there, a litter box with pine bits, and food and water bowls.

She's meowing and I feel just TERRIBLE. Her eyes are dilated and her mouth is open. Most sites I read said feral cats would be in a hiding spot in the room. But Bella is right there by the door. She doesn't seem to be afraid of me, just her strange surroundings. And the mirror. She's trying to figure that one out.

Now that she's inside I have no clue how to proceed or what it will be like since she was pretty friendly with me before. Will I need to regain her trust all over? How will I ever get her back into the carrier when it's time to go get her spayed? I'm so nervous.

And I feel bad separating her from Ozzie, I think he's her son and they were always together, but he is a lot more skittish than she is and I don't think I'm ready to handle him yet. But I would love to have both of them together again inside.

I'll browse some posts on here, but I just wanted to say hey to everyone on here, and wish me luck. Any tips are appreciated!

Hi MamaBella78 and welcome to TCS!

I can see you've started a thread over in our Strays and Ferals forum about your new girl, and I'm sure you'll get lots of help there.

Enjoy the site, and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to TCS!
This is how it starts - one day it's some leftovers on the back stoop and the next you have been adopted by at least one cat in need of a family.  That bit about world domination?  That's true by the way.
I haven't checked in on your other post yet, but like @Mani says, you'll probably get a lot of good advice on bringing both Bella and eventually Ozzie inside.  In the meantime, do you have any pictures of them?  I also have a black cat (Paul) and a torbie (Chula) and think this is a delightful combination.  So let's see some photos!  And welcome again!

i think you are going about the process all right, she needs to stay in a small room for at least a week with lots of visits from you until she is accustomed to being inside the house. The smaller the space, the safer she will feel. It's only been a couple of hours and it can take a new cat who has been inside their whole lives weeks to adjust to their new home, much less a kitty thats been living outside. When you do go in there, sit in the floor at her level and let her come to you for pets rather than going at her. Offer up open hands with some tasty treats and since she already shows interest in you, you two will be best buds before you know it!

Patience is the best virtue with cats

I have gotten so much help and support in the other post, I'm so glad I found you guys. I actually haven't seen Ozzie in a few days so I'm getting worried. Maybe since Bella is gone he's moved? I hope nothing bad has happened to him.

Ozzie.

Her first night inside.
