She looks thinner because her kittens have dropped into the birth canal.  She will probably deliver in the next 24-48 hours.  Would it be possible to put a nest in the kids closet and put a pet/child gate to keep your son out?

Don't use newspaper for the nests.  The ink is just as toxic to kittens as it is to kids.

I can't I'm afraid as my daughters is a normal wardrobe, they don't have walk in wardrobes and my sons toddler bed is in between his wardrobe and my daughters.
It's the bed pads that they use in maternity units that I've used for all her nests as I had loads left over from when I bought them for my home birth in December. I don't buy newspapers so just thought the bed pads were the best thing as they are super absorbent ones as well. If she doesn't labour in 48 hours do I call the weekend vets or will she be ok till Monday till she sees her own vet ?

No, don't call the vet unless she's in distress.  There is no 'always' with cats, each has it own timetable.  I'm just going by averages.

You could let her have them there and then move the nest in a day or two.

Ok. I'm just a nervous wreck incase there's something wrong and that's why she's showing signs but nothing's happening.

Yes, welcome to the waiting game.  As the time gets closer imaginations go wild.  Try to stay calm, she will pick up on your stress.

She's currently laying on my wooden flooring in the front room and it's as if her back leg is twitching. It's different from how it looks when the kitties move. It was like her fur just moved on its own then she say up and lay on her opposite side

She's in labor.  It could be pre-contractions, which come and go, or stage 1 labor, which last up to 24 hours.

is it true that most cats have their litter through the night ? My friend said her mum used to breed them and it was always night time. I'm unsure if I should sleep on the sofa tonight just incase or if I should just keep checking on her. Would me being present put her off ?

No your presence will not interfere and in fact many cats want their favorite human close by during birth.

She's getting closer now, but really labor is different with each cat. It can be quick or take days. It's good that you're able to stay near, she'll probably want you there with her.

Still no kittens. Her belly is a lot lower and it's not hard at the top anymore but towards the bottom is firm so they have definitely dropped.

It sure sounds like it. Is she uncomfortable?
She hasn't moved much at all today, she keeps going to the corner of my front room and laying facing the wall. She had a few puffs and pants earlier then stopped.

It sounds like pre-labor or early labor. You'll probably have kittens this weekend.

How long can that last ? I mean hours or days ? I am supposed to be taking my children out for the day tomorrow but if she hasn't gave birth then I will get hubby to take them as I don't want to leave her for long periods of time.

Stage one labor can last up to 24 hours. Pre-labor can be off and on for a few days. The fact she's leaking milk suggests she's very close, and that her hormones are in high gear for kittens. It's just so hard to know exactly. Hopefully, she'll present more signs in time for you to make a decision about tomorrow.

So far there is no other signs. All she's doing is sleeping and drinking water. She ate some food also but only half of what she has been eating. She became a bit vocal about 4pm but didn't last very long. It's the waiting around, I'm such a nervous person so I'm a nervous wreck. I worry about her so much even though I know she will probably be ok xx
