My cat Sebastian is 6 years old and an indoor/outdoor cat. I live in rural south of France and he has (small) village gardens to roam. he never strayed more than a good few 100 meters from the house and survived living earlier for years near a busy road. He is extremely smart, characterful, and very loving. Usually knocks the window or letter box with his paw a good few times a day for cuddles or food. He has never missed his evening meal and very rarely a breakfast.

Now since last Thursday, 6 days ago, he suddenly didn't come home anymore. Not a sign from him. I have gone frantic as he is very much a loved family member and I am super attached to him :( So far I have gone in panic mode and plastered the village with posters (including a big colorful picture of him and the details of his disappearing, contact details and asking people to check for him in their garages etc). Then I talked to most people in the community center and they all knew about him being missing. THEN I started to worry about elderly people not leaving the house, nor reading flyers on village walls, and I printed 200 more flyers and put them through everybodies mail box. I talked to anyone who might have seen him and most knew him - appeared he wandered around quite a bit - but nobody saw him anymore after Thursday.

I did thorough inspections of the back gardens of neighbors that belong to his territory (or the one known to me at least), called, whistled and checked for him in bushes. I also smelled carefully and detected a dead baby wild boar in the neighbors garden that way. Not my cat though.

I also made online 'perdu' lost cat advertisements on every site I could find, including pictures of him. Tomorrow I plan on giving flyers to the local vets and animal shelters, in case someone brings him in. I don't know what else to do...

His arch enemy neighbor cat strangely also disappeared around the same time and is till this date unfound as well! My cat is sterilized/neutered so I doubt he is chasing the lady cats... I am crying my eyes out to be honest and thinking of what else I can do, and more so, what could have happened? He is so attached to us and the house, I don't think he'd just walk out and find a new place to live.

Are there maybe things I can still do? I read up on here and think I will start making long walks in every broadening circles around the countryside, calling and whistling for him and leaving my scent on trees. I am also thinking of looking around close to roads (cars don't drive very fast here and he is very afraid of cars and the noise they make). I am wondering; could he have been injured perhaps and go into hiding? Could he have wandered off too far and didn't know how to get home perhaps? Could someone have killed him even? There are not many wild or evil dogs around here..

I am so upset and worried and every time I get back home and he isn't waiting for me, I get even more upset.

Thank you for any tips!

PS: he recently lost his collar with an address in it :( I didn't replace it yet. He also isn't chipped.

It's always devastating when one's cat is missing.  One of mine went missing once for 3 weeks and I as sure I'd never see her again.  Low and behold, one day I was out running and I heard her meowing.  Turned out she was under our neighbor's porch.  Not sure how long she had been there, but I can tell you that she never voluntarily went outside again

Anyway, maybe this article will help you determine if there is anything else you could do.  Read it all...it covers both indoors and outdoors:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/help-my-cat-is-lost

Best of luck.  Hopefully we'll soon here he's back home again!
