My girl is 13 and I of course want to feed her the best that's within my price range (around $1 per 5.5 oz can). Currently she's eating 4Health, canned and dry mixed together with a couple tablespoons of water for extra hydration. She's always had dry skin with lots of dandruff, has had a few teeth removed, and last time we went to the vet they said she may become diabetic.

That being said, would anyone recommend a change in diet, and can anyone recommend a slightly higher quality food within my price range? She will only eat pate and is pretty insistent on having a little dry mixed in with her wet. She does not like Wellness, most Blue Buffalo flavors, and TOTW wet food. We tried Authority but she really wasn't pleased, and frankly I don't care to support that store until they stop selling live animals. Chicken Soup was a winner but she refuses to eat the same flavor food for more than a couple days. I've considered trying Nutro Max Cat but it's hard to find it around here and I don't want to buy a case online that she won't like.

That does look pretty good! I'll have to find out where it's sold locally and pick up a few cans to try

Oh good, there's a Petco a couple miles away. If she likes it, which I really hope she does, I'll be ordering the cases from Chewy or Amazon. Thank you for your suggestion!

If she has a chance of becoming diabetic, I'd cut the dry food out completely. It's pretty high carb and with a pre-diabetic cat, that's something you are going to want to watch. If she likes something dry with her wet food, try Purebites. They're pure freeze dried meat, so no carby fillers.

I'd also make sure the wet food you're looking into is lower carb. Avoid things like potatoes, peas, grains, and starches. If she's not diabetic yet, you have a chance to get it under control before she becomes diabetic.

Definitely cut out the dry food if you can.

This TCS article might be helpful in transitioning your kitty to an all-wet diet: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/transit...-to-a-new-type-of-food-canned-raw-or-homemade

If your kitty won't eat the wet food on its own, you can try adding toppers or tuna water.

Young Again makes a dry food that would be okay to feed to your senior kitty, but it is much more expensive than 4Health.  http://youngagainpetfood.com/zero-mature-health.html

If you buy a bag of Purebites, buy at chewy or amazon dog size bag. It is same and much more economical. I buy the biggest bag at $23 and just break up the bits for the cats and dog.
