My cat is 3yo and has been sick for the past 4 days. It started last Thursday morning she started vomiting (first food with hairball, then a bit more food, then only bile) every 15 minutes for around 3 hours accompanied with diarrhea (barely any coming out tho). She kept trying to drink but she couldnt keep it in for more than a few minutes. During the afternoon it calmed down a bit, but still thew up maybe once an hour. The same night she tried to eat once but threw it up right away. Friday she was a bit better; vomiting less often, holding some water in half the time but refusing to eat and still having diarrhea.

Saturday we took her to the vet, the vet checked her eyes, throat, lips, weighted her, took her temperature, felt her belly for hard spots, gave her water fluid in case of dehydration but didnt find anything out of the ordinary (she didnt perform any blood test, or x-ray tho - she mentioned it but didnt feel it was necessary right away). Anyway she sent us home with some meds to stop the vomiting and a fluid to help heal the digestive track and said to look out for her poop - thats how we'd know if shes getting better. The same evening she started eating again a bit but no drinking and no pooping. Sunday she seemed even better, she played a bit, ate, peed, seemed to feel quite good but still no poop.

Finally today it started going downhill again, she vomited once (so far) despite the meds, it was bile even tho she did eat. However its been almost 60 hours since we came back from the vet and she still hasnt pooped once and also hasnt drank yet. Its weird how shes the opposite since we went to the vet, before she was drinking and having diarrhea not eating, now she eats but dont drink and seems constipated...

Anyway im going to call the vet again soon and see what the next step should be but im curious has this ever happened to one your cats? what turned out to be the cause? anything you did that helped him/her heal?

The only time my male cat has vomited that severely was this easter just gone. He'd eaten a nose off a teddy bear and it had lodged in his intestines. That being said, he was off his food, but I'd maybe get a 2nd opinion. All his blood work was normal, his belly was soft and he didn't poop either once he'd cleared what was below the blockage. If she's not getting worse and worse though that probably isn't the problem (although a partial blockage could be). Not trying to scare you of course but the fact she's still vomiting, I'd definitely take her back or take her somewhere else.

Thank you for sharing, i remember the vet asking if she could've eaten a foreign object i guess she thought it could be a blockage too. She sure loves to steal pretty much any unattended object she can fit in her mouth but i never seen her actually eat them, she instead keeps hiding them under the couch lol. Anyway since my first post she hasnt vomited again and in fact finally had a bowel movement and it was no longer diarrhea!

I couldnt get hold of the vet by phone so today ill go in person to make sure she can free herself and talk for 5 minutes. Also as per her directions ill stop the meds today to see how she reacts (i still have some left if the vomiting gets out of the control again).

A partial blockage as you said does sound like the most likely explanation given the circumstances, i also read about IBD but it didnt seem to be a condition that just happens "out of the blue" like this did. So, even if shes stable off the meds i do plan on at least getting her x-ray'd and see if theres anything in her intestines.

Ill post an update this evening.

They x-ray is a great idea. You want to rule out blockages. I woudn't jump to the ibd/ibs conclusion either. Alot of times its the food, it can go bad or be contaminated. Id get another bag with a different batch number and see if that helps. There are certian protozoa and parasites that can cause those symptoms. Maybe you could get a fecal smear done for the parasites and just go ahead and treat for the protozoa. Getting her on some probiotics could also help replace the gut flora that has died off. Us mammals are more bacteria then anything else (10 microorganisms for every cell in our body) and deficent gut flora reeks havick on the digestive tract.
