We received our kitten from a woman who had an outdoor cat that had babies. We are unsure exactly how old he is, but I estimate around 8 weeks. Being an outdoor cat they didn't usually use a litterbox so our kitten is not fully litter trained!

After bringing him home he peed in the litter box  and then pooped in it. After he pooped in it once he would only poop in it and peed on our bed!

We bought him another box and he still only poops in the one and pees on our bed!

I try to put him in the box when I think of it but he even goes on the bed right after!

Any ideas? We don't want this to become a habit!

Thank you!!

Oh boy. This is tough, because he knows what the litter box is for and has now developed a bad habit. You're going to have to put him in the bathroom (kitchen if there is a door) with his food, water, and litter box for the better part of a few days until he learns, and he will learn. And wash your bed thoroughly so there is no trace of his smell.

He looks very sweet!

Just thought of a possible reason, could our litter boxes be too small? We have two of the tiny kitten litter boxes..

How many litter boxes do you have? Some cats do not like to pee and poop in the same litter box.  Also how far away are the litter boxes from the area where the accidents are happening?  It may not hurt to try a bigger litter box but make sure that he can get into it.  I have 4 different sized litter boxes for my 4 cats and they definitely know which litter box they prefer to use.

He's pretty active and can jump and climb all over our apartment :)

I think he will have no problem climbing in a bigger box, just not sure if that is the problem ;(

He has two litter boxes to himself, and one is about 10 feet away and the other is across the room right next to the bed where he is peeing.

This morning he kept climbing on the bed and I put him in a box every time. Finally I sat by the box and kept putting him back and he peed in it..

Hi, My kitten is doing the same. I went away for a couple of days, and he pooped multiple times on my bed as well as peeing there. Now, he poops in his litter box, which I keep regularly clean, and pees on my bed, or in any other place he can find that is acceptable, I.e. a bath mat, or a rug. At first I thought there might be something wrong with him but it appears to be a bad habit that he has developed, because of me being away for a couple of days, Im going to do what you suggested and keep him in the bathroom, with his food and litter tray and see what happens.
