As her name suggests, yes; she is the mom to our other four.  Momma-Kat is ten her "brood" are all nine.

Just recently found Momma-Kat has what I'd consider pretty bad asthma.

Started with lung xray that showed just a lot of "spots" which vet Steve said was inflammation, (he never even said asthma).

Started her on tablet steroids and liquid antibiotics.

She seemed better after about 3 days but then got worse.

9days after first vet visit, had her back in, more xrays and those showed what looked like a maze of spider webs throughout her lungs, looked awful.

This time with Dr. Rose and she said: asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia.

She gave Momma-Kat a steroid shot and an antibiotic shot and within 2 days, Momma-Kat seemed better.  No coughing at all but that is when I came across this site and made my first post.  Some good people responded and that prompted me to call the vet inquiring about putting her on albuterol then Flovent PUFFERS.

Well, it took the vet 6 days to FINALLY get Momma a script for both puffers.  Momma-Kat has only had 5 puffs of Flovent as of this morning.

She's had to have several more Albuterol because she's allowed to per her script, and she's had real labored breathing all weekend (it was super humid here past week or so).

Also her coughing seemed under control until last night about 8pm.  She had a real bad coughing fit, scared my spouse and I half to death, we thought she was going to die right then and there.

After we calmed her down and the coughing stopped, I gave her the Albuterol, (I actually think she's learning that it helps her breathe.)

She did not have another episode overnight or since.  She has got her morning dose of BOTH puffers at 6:30 am and all is well except she's still looking like it's hard for her to breathe.

It has cooled off a lot, and the humidity is down so all windows are open.  We also are only using dust-free litter and when it gets humid, windows get shut and A/C runs with all overhead fans running too.

My worry is this: she's only had 5 puffs of the Flovent which is what really needs to get into her system.  I'm getting mixed information on how long this could take to start really working.

I can't leave my house for fear she's going to have a real bad attack and die on me.

Mind you, other than the asthma; perfect health.  She is not overweight.  Her poor lungs are just struggling.

I'm scared to death for her.  We just lost our 12 year old husky about 2 months ago, and I can't bear to lose another one of our babies.  BUT I also don't want her suffering.

So PLEASE, anyone else who has an asthmatic kitty, please tell me your thoughts. Is it true that it could take up to 10 days for the Flovent to really start working in her lungs?  (&Yes, I have puffer tubes/chambers- and know she's getting the med's in.)

Any and all information will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THANKS,

Sandi

Just bumping this up for you.  If all else fails, you might try re-titling your thread "Flovent question" or something like that.

Hoping you can get this all situated so you both can feel better...you and Mamma Kat
.  Believe me, I know what it's like to worry
I also recently lost one of mine.
