Hi Guys,

So my 1 yr old kitty, Mooshki, is with the vet getting spayed right now.  She is in full blown heat!  Meowing, yowling, and rolling like crazy!

Anyway, the vet acknowledged how she was in heat but said it was still okay to proceed with the surgery.  However, she mentioned that because she is having the surgery during her heat cycle that even after the surgery Mooshki will still act like she’s in heat.  I thought that once the surgery is done she will go back to acting normal, but the vet said this won’t be the case until after this heat cycle (end of the week).

Has anyone had this happen to them before, why does this happen? :(

I can't say this with certainty, but it is most likely to do with the hormones already circling the body. Removing the womb does not remove the hormonal dump that she has already experienced, so she will continue to act funny, until those hormones level out in her blood stream. I don't think you should be concerned about it anyway. Just make sure to clean and sterilize the wound site and give the full antibiotics required. Sincerely, the kittykeepers.
